1st Trimester

surgery but now prego

I had a lap on Jan. 15th and it was found I have extensive endometriosis.  I was scheduled for a laparotomy for this Thursday, April 2nd.  We have been TTC for just shy of 2 years.

Well, last Friday (March 27th) I hadn't gotten my period yet, so I took a home test.  To my surprise it was postive!  I called the doctor when they opened and I went in for blood test and they for sure said surgery is off.  My progesterone is low (and always has been for the last 2 year) so I am taking progesterone injections.

My problem is, I/we don't want to tell anyone we are pregnant because it's so early and with my progesterone issues, who knows what will happen.  What do I tell people about my surgery?  Our families know that I am having a pre-op physical today, so maybe tell a "white lie" about my labs test being off?!?

  • You could always say they accidentally double booked the OR and that your surgery has been pushed back a few weeks.

  • I would go with the white lie. Give yourself some time. I am glad I have waited as long as I have. It was a lot less stressful.

  • I had gallbladder surgery last year and they had to push it back a few weeks to do a more "important" (emergency) surgery.  You could always use that as an excuse!!  I had to wait a month from my original surgery date.

  • Just fib and say it was postponed because they decided last minute to do some different testing... and you'll keep them updated...

  • I know that they wont do surgery if you have a fever.  Maybe you can tell your family that you had a cold with a fever so they couldn't do the surgery, and they are booked for awhile.  And I'm not sure but I think they will also postpone surgery if you are really anemic, and that could take some time to fix.  Or an infection of some sort, (even a UTI or a skin infection).  I could be wrong though.

Congrats!!! Hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months.  And good luck with your family.

  • Thank you everyone for the ideas!

Keeping this wonderful blessing a secret is hard, harder than I thought!  I broke down crying to my Mom telling her that my surgery was off due to "out of range lab tests" and a "slight fever".  My mom found it strange how that could happen, almost like she knows something is up.

My MIL asked 20 questions.  It was all very hard, I'm glad we don't have to answer all the questions now!  We can lay low for a bit longer and hope this bean sticks!  My progesterone today was 13.8 and hcg 1,251!!  Positive I think.  KMFC
