Success after IF

Decision day :(

1.  Will I resume my old position at my job working 8:30-5:30, M-F Or Will I remain an afternoon assistant teacher and hope that I have a job in Sept.

2.  Where do I put the girls.  The center where I work (and can see them several times a day) for 3/4 of my paycheck or the center around the corner where DH can pick them up when he's done with work for much cheaper.

I think I have decided that I will resume teacher working all day and the cheaper daycare.  It just breaks my heart that I will drop them off at 8 and not see them again until 6. 10 hours without my girls.  At least we'll have more money and I get the weekends right along with paid vacations/sick time/holiday pay.

Today sucks :(.

Re: Decision day :(

  • I think I would do what you are doing...how long will they be in the daycare before your DH can pick them up?
  • Loading the player...
  • That's a tough decision, but I think I would go with the decision you are making.
  • He'll pick them up around 230 everyday and he'll keep them home on Wednesdays which is his day off.

  • you didn't really ask for advice, but you know how it goes...

you can always back down from the FT job, but who knows in this economy (man I am hating that phrase) if you have the option to start it back up.

I would take on the big dog and do it as long as you can stand it, nothing is forever. Just SAVE the money, and don't start spending more just b/c you're making it. lol.  GL!

  • I'd probably also go with what you decided, as long as I liked the cheaper daycare, which it seems you do.

I'm with Davez, though, save as much of the money you make as you can.  I'm working on trying to figure out if we can live off of just my husband's paychecks and save mine.  It's always nice to know what you can handle, especially in this economy.  We know my job isn't really safe since I work for a construction company, but thankfully my husband's is since he works for the federal government.

I know I've gotten off topic, sorry, but Davez got me started.  Hehehe.

  • It sounds like you have pretty much made up your mind.  I think it is odd that the place where you work doesn't give some kind of discount if you have your children there.
  • =(  It definitely sucks. I drop Collin off at 6:15am and I pick up him at 4:15pm.  The first week, I cried every day.  The first day, I cried all day.  It was really really hard. I was convinced that I wanted to be a stay at home mom.  Valentine's Day weekend.. I picked him up that Friday and he had the cutest little bag of Valentine's from all of the other kids.  It was at that momemt that I realized he would never have that interaction if I were home with him.  All the kids love him and they all know his name and talk to him and play with him all day. So for that reason I do like it but it was super hard at first.

    Aww!!

I guess I should add that once they are 2, if I'm still there, they will join me at my center when it's much cheaper.

Davez, I totally get you :).  When I was working full time before, we managed to save up a bunch but then we had the girls and I started working 17 hours a week.  You can't save much with that and now we're digging into the "pot".  I can't wait to start filling it up again even if it's more slowly because i have to pay for childcare now.

  • =) It is really really sweet to watch the kids interact with him.  Collin is the youngest. There's a little red headed girl there.. Kaya I think her is and every day when I pick him up she says good bye and blows him kisses. It's the sweetest thing.

  • I think I would do the same thing that you are doing.  I'm in the same situation right now that I'm away from him for 10 hours a day.  Those first few days of doing that were really hard, but I'm getting into the swing of things now.  Mondays are still hard to start it back up again.

It sounds like you've made your decision, even though it's a hard one.  I pat you on the back for doing what you have to to help your family.
