Pediped vs Robeez for first walking shoe?

Would like to get DD a good pair of shoes for her to walk in. From what I understand soft soles are the best and that seems to be what Robeez is. I've never seen a Pediped in person so I'm not sure if it would be something similar or very different.

Please recommend your kid's shoe brand!

Thanks :)

  • As someone who used to sell children's shoes, the first thing I would say is speak with your doctor. They all have some different recommendations on what would be best for your child's foot.

In general however, Robeez are not considered a first walker. I would recommend a Stride Rite shoe. Yes, they are spendy but that's the brand we sold more than anything as first walker. Doctor's love them, and they encourage good foot development. If you pick one up from a display you can see how pliable the sole of the shoe is, and where it bends. It's a good shoe.

  • I was thinking of adding Stride Rite when I typed this. We have an outlet near us so that may help :) Thanks for the advice.
  • Awesome. Stride Rite employees are very well trained in getting the right shoe and the proper fit. Both very important. You'll probably want to look at a plain (boring I know) old white high top style. They aren't really a "High top" but that's how they look.

Most baby's have a very high instep and these shoes are deep enough to accomodate that. As I said, just double check with your pediatrician first. Sometimes there are other suggestions.

  • I love DD's pedipeds.  The soles are 3 layers of a soft leather.  She has a mary jane style, which is great because I can adjust them to fit her feet.
