TTC after 35

HSG or wait for RE?

Looking for some opinions... Two months ago my OB suggested that I might need an HSG but last month she told me to see a RE and didn't order any more tests. So far I've had the Day 21 Progesterone test (I had ovulated around day 19 that month & test showed I had a progesterone level of 7.9). I also had the CD 3 Bloodwork which was normal. I worry that I might have a progesterone problem due to spotting at 10 DPO every month and two early losses. The thought of another 2 months of failure before getting more advanced help is really depressing. Should I call back my OB and try to get her to be more aggressive or wait for the RE (my appt is May 7)? Thanks so much.

Re: HSG or wait for RE?

  • No way to get into the RE earlier??

I'd call back the OB and tell her that you have to wait till May for the RE and is there anything she can do "in the meantime".

You've gotten pregnant, so I don't think an HSG should be the #1 priority. I had that once I started seeing the RE b/c it's just part of their infertility workup.

I'd ask OB to help now and hint at clomid and progesterone supplements. Can't hurt and no one wants to waste time, especially at age 37!

I'm 35 and just got my AF after my d&c and can't wait to get back on track. Waiting is the worse.

Good luck and you should be aggressive, I've definitely found that out the hard way.

    ?Keep us up to date!?

  • I don't have an answer to your question but just wanted to let you know that I also had a progesterone result of 7.9 and also spotted around 10 or 11dpo. I managed to get pregnant after almost a year but I truly believe a more organic lifestyle, no caffeine and using natural progesterone cream after ovulation helped a lot. You can get the cream at Whole Foods, I use Emerita ProGest. It's something you can research and think about if you want.

    Good luck with everything!

  • Anyone, I know who has gone to an RE has had to have an HSG done even if they had one done by their OBGYN. Can you see if you can get in sooner somewhere else or is this the one your OB recommended?

I have never had one done so I don't know how painful (or not) they can be but I would rather not go through that more than once. So I would wait for the RE appt but that's just me.  I am, admittedly, a baby when it comes to things that have even the slightest bit risk of being painful.

Like, peztopper, said you've gotten pregnant so going through possible two  HSG tests would be completely unnecessary.

Did your OBGYN suggest you take a progesterone supplement after you ovulate?  That seems to be the first step after miscarriages. I would talk to her about it and see if she will prescribe you some.

Good luck and i'm sorry for your losses.

These were the things I was thinking too.  Good luck and keep us posted.
