Re: Help quickk please re 2 yo and 103 fever

  • I would definitely try to give her something to bring down the fever & call the pedi's office.
  • Hmm. Would she take the medicine if it's in juice or something to drink?

  • She is usually really good with taking meds. Right now (well when she is awake) all she wants is ice water. She is sleeping now. When she woke up crying I tried to give her meds. She cried and by the time I filler her sippy cup she was back to sleep.

Is it ok to let her sleep with such a high fever and do nothing about it. I hate tot wake her because I know how bad she feels.

  • i'd definitely call the pedi on-call.
  • when did you take the temp? when she woke up or before she went to bed?
  • When that's happened to me, I just let her sleep.  I didn't call the pediatrician, but I know lots of others would.

  • See thats the thing....I hate to call her pedi! He is useless. I am in the process of changing yet her paperwork has yet to switch hands to the new DR we requested.
  • I hardly ever post on this board but I am responding to you because my son suffers from febrile seizures from a sudden high spike in fever- I don't want to scare you but get some medicine in her asap.

I'd give her a dose of both Motrin and Tylonol (this is what they did in the ER the first time it happened to us) and call you pedi right away.

Febrile seizures are normal and not harmful- but they are caused by high fevers and they are super scary for everyone involved.  I say get that medicine in her as quick as you can.

    Hope that fever breaks soon

if she's sleeping then let her sleep.  The only reason you medicate a fever (below brain damage-ville which is 107 or unless she has a hx of febrile seizures) is for the comfort of the child If she's sleeping, she's comfortable.

  • Go get some Feverall. It's the same as tylenol... but it's suppositories. Not fun to get in, but no chance of puking it up.

My pedi has a dosage chart for the suppositories online:

Another thought, if she's asleep and you put a medicine dropper in her mouth, will she suck on it in her sleep?

  • call the ped and if you can't get meds into her then get some tylenol suppositories. I would not worry about her not eating as long as she is drinking.
