Georgia Babies

Thanks....re:Sleep questions

Hey ladies! I am just getting back online.  Thanks for all of your wonderful advice! Aiden does not STTN....the most he has gone is like 9-9 1/2 hours...but that has only happened once or twice....I really don't mind him getting up in the middle of the night..he normally does for a reason (wet/hungry/teething/etc)....what I want him to 'eventually' be able to do is soothe himself....which he soooo can't do now...lol....I know this is going to be really hard on him(us too!!!), but I figure that the sooner we do it the better....we had a ton of issues with reflux & slow weight gain, so I feel like now is the soonest that we really have been able to think about this..

Again...thanks for all of your responses....I will keep you guys posted on how it goes once we get started!

  • GL! I hope that Aidan learns to soothe himself, w/o too many tears shed. It's hard to listen to them cry. He will do it.

  • Thanks! I hope so....it breaks my heart to have him get upset, but I know that this will help him in the long run...it is just going to be hard to get there! He seems to have a little temper too, so hopefully he won't fight it too much! =)
  • He'll do it, Erin.  I promise.  Once he gets the hang of it he might even prefer to soothe himself to sleep rather than be rocked.  They say give it seven nights for an adjustment, but P never needs more than 2 for a transition.  First night is the hardest.  We're here for you!
  • Thanks so much for the support Martha...I think he'll get the hang of it...I just think the first couple nights are going to be HORRIBLE...but then again he may surprise me! I guess we will see! I know the sooner I start the better it will be...but it makes me very nervous!
  • He'll get it.  And like Martha said, he'll probably prefer to put himself to sleep once he gets it.  Our bedtime routine is so short now that Gavin does it all by himself!

  • I hope he figures it out...we have done the same bedtime routine since day1...so that is a really good thing...he knows what to expect....we are just going to throw a curve ball at him soon I guess! =(

I figured I will start this by doing it at bedtime since he knows that routine...do you guys think we should master that one first and then move on to naps? or do we do all of it together??? (I still haven't gotten my book to see what Ferber "suggests"...I know it is up to me, but I was hoping some of you have had experiences and suggestions....as usual! Thanks again! =)
