Gdiapers with cloth inserts q?

I was wondering if anyone had tried this. I heard about the gdiapers, and LOVE the idea of them and now have heard mention of using cloth diapers inside of them when you are home and don't NEED the disposable factor to the gdiapers. Anyone done this successfully? or even unsuccessfully? what cloth diapers did you use? we are trying to go organic too so any suggestions in that category would be ab fab! TIA!

Re: Gdiapers with cloth inserts q?

  • I have used g-diapers with the flushables for vacations, or when J has a rash and I don't want to get cream on my cloth.  I think most people just use them with a prefold.  I have to say, cloth is EASIER when we are out, than a g-diaper flushable.  I think cloth is easier all around!

  • Ok that sounds awesome, thank you! what type of CD do you use for the inserts? do you double up overnight? or any suggestions for overnight vs daytime? especially with a newborn? I know I'm probably a pest with so many questions but I really REALLY appreciate your help!
  • I use GMD prefolds (Green Mountain Diapers), but I haven't tried them with the g-diapers.  I only use the g-diapers with the flushables for vacations or bad rashes.  I normally use either pocket diapers, or fitteds and covers.  I know for the flushables, you double up for overnight, so I would assume the same would be true of using cloth.  Probably a hemp insert with a prefold.  Most newborns are up every three hours, so you would change them as frequently as you would during the day.  Unless you get an awesome sleeper, which I did not.
  • I started diapering with g's and gerber birdseye prefolds when DS was about 6 months. At first it worked great. I folded the prefold in thirds and then over in the front for extra?absorbency. DS was chunky and I never had trouble getting the snap in's right into his inner thighs. At night we always used a?deposable?because the g's didn't last very long. Once DS started crawling he thinned out a little and he was constantly moving so we started to have leaks. The trouble was that when he would sit the snap in would buckle in the front leaving a gap between the waist band and his thighs. He was constantly leaking through clothes and the outer fabric was always wet defeating the purpose. I don't know if it was because the prefold was too bulky or because the snap in's elastic seemed stretched out a little. Gerber prefolds aren't very absorbent but I don't think a DSQ would work either because of bulk. Either way it became too much hassle and we switched to cloth altogether.?

There is a website that sells cloth inserts that are specially made for g-diapers. If you call g-diapers they will give you the address. Good Luck! ?

  • Berry, we had the same problem with the gerber "premium" prefolds leaking with the gpants.  The birdseye weave ones work so.much.better.  We also use prefolds that we got from momsmilkboutique.com.  We haven't had a leak since.  :-)  We have only been using them four a couple weeks but DS is a major wiggler/crawler.  It's working great for us.  I almost wish I would've known about them when I first started cding because of how easy they are to use if you have a very squirmy DC, which we do, and pf's were a PITA.
