I posted this earlier on 0-6 but seems like you guys are a bit more seasoned and could offer insight. DS is coming off a bad cold with fever for about 4 days. (Negative rsv test, just a high fever and lots of snot.) His fever has been gone since Monday night. Starting yesterday he refuses to eat. Screams when we put a bottle in his mouth, arches his back, the whole deal. He has gone from eating 6 six ounce bottles a day to yesterday only getting 18 oz total. (And that was practically wrestling him to eat little bits at a time.) Is this normal following a sickness? Is this little enough consumption to worry about dehydration? I'm keeping a log of his input and wet diapers and will call the pedi in the morning. Today he has only had 16 oz and will attempt one more bottle before going down for good. I'm just so worried and not sure what to do. Should I try water? Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
Re: Can you help me? Scared new mom...
Oh you poor thing!
Actually, 18 oz seems fine to me, I would be worried if it were much less, but he IS drinking and wetting his diapers, right?
Hang in there!
Have you snot-sucked him before he eats? He might not be able to breathe.
Alternatively, his teeny little eustachian tubes might be blocked with mucus and/or he may have developed an ear infection. If his eats hurt, sucking will too.

Could he have an ear infection from the cold? Is he waking/crying at night as well? DS would refuse to eat/get really upset at the bottle when he had an ear infection or when he is getting teeth.
I wouldn't worry about dehydration, etc. too much - just make sure that he is peeing during the day and I would call the pedi in the morning to see what they say.
((hugs)) I know it is scary when things like this happen.
I would definitely be worried too, but I think as long as he is wetting his diapers he is probably okay. 16 oz. is pretty good. Still, it's a big difference from what he was eating before, so I would take him back to the pedi if he doesn't seem better soon.
