How did you do it?
Dh and I want to move to NYC or just outside of it... ( I used to live there) So I have applied to some jobs and keep applying....
We are staying at my parents' house and have all our frniture packed so we are kinda anxious to move to our own place again... I just dont' know how to do it in a rational way....
Any thoughts?
Re: NBR: If you have relocated from one city to another...
all of it... well as far as jobs go, I've gone to the websites.. such as careebuilder, monster . com and applied ....but I just dont' know how to deal with it all... We want a fresh start sooo bad, after losing our house.. dh losing his job and everything else!
When i met DH, i lived in NY, he lived in TX... i gave up my job and moved away from my family to be down with him..obviousy that was a good choice since we're married 3 yrs this month and have DD lol.
So anyway, when i moved there i went driving locally to find a job. I worked as a manager of a restaurant back home, so stupid me kept in the restaurant business and worked as a Server/Trainer heh.
Then DH got relocated from TX to FL, and i did the same thing without much luck, so reluctantly applied for the same company he works for (doing a different job, different stuff etc) and have been there ever since (3 years next month).
Definately apply online, but see if you can look online for local papers where you'll be going as well. Do you have anyone up there you can have check with their workplaces for openings as well. Otherwise, when you do get up there, hit the road too.
Good Luck!
Definitely go to local newspapers' websites to look at their classified jobs. Maybe find a couple of headhunters or recruiters to help with your job search. Tell them a few days that you can come down and have them schedule interviews for you during that time. Put the word out to anyone you used to know there that you and DH are looking. Send your resume to interesting companies even if they don't have a job posting, then follow up with a phone call. You might try using someone's local address on your resume so companies don't dismiss it right away thinking you'll want relocation paid.
If one of you finds work there, since your stuff is already in storage you could find short term housing (maybe outside the city...NJ maybe?) while the other finds a job and you decide where to live.
Stay positive...something will work out soon!
