The ?Making Work Pay? provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act = what a joke

DH and I have both started getting our pay checks with the *extra* money from this part of the stimulus package and if they seriously think that a few extra dollars in my pay check will somehow get me to spend more money they need to get their heads out of their asses.  Seriously if you want consumers to start spending more you can't just put an extra $15 in their paycheck because it's just going to go to bills or a savings account.....

  • I totally agree. Its the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

  • Honestly, the $70/month in my paychecks can be for 'fun' money.  Not to mention, when you add DH's and make it $140/month.  That is one nice dinner out.  A couple cheaper dinners out if you want to divide it up.  I agree that for the average person, maybe it is necessary for bills and savings.  But, I also think that it frees up more fun money for people as well.

Yeah, it's enough for extra fun money, but if they really want to stimulate spending it's really a small amount of money that I think will go under the radar to a lot of people....it's certainly isn't going to send people out in masses or encourage someone to make a big purchase that they have been holding off on.

  • My question is, when am I going to see this in my paycheck?!
  • I agree.  It's not even noticeable and our kids are going to end up paying the taxes on debt we're creating for just a few extra bucks in our paycheck that we aren't even noticing.

I was wondering the same thing! ?I looked at the whitehouse.gov page a few days ago and it appears that it needs to be by April 1.?
