Bedding set or no?

Is everyone planning to buy a full crib bedding set, or are some thinking about just getting sheets and maybe the crib skirt?  I keep reading that the bumpers may be a safety hazard, and you can't keep the quilt/blanket in the crib anyway, so I'm not sure if it's worth buying the whole set, but they're so cute!

Re: Bedding set or no?

  • I'm not a huge fan of everything being super matchy matchy so I ended up purchasing everything seperate.  I bought 2 sheets (BRU), one crib skirt (ebay), and a bumper (rachel ashwell shabby chic).  I spent about $114 total.

  • I purchased my pieces separately  I did get a crib skirt, sheet, and bumper but I think I did it more for the look.  Instead of getting a quilt I got a blanket to fold over the crib but that is more for looks again instead of usage.
  • Thanks - that's kind of what I'm leaning towards doing too - hate that all the bedding sets look so cute, but most of the time you'll just see the sheets and bed skirt (and bumper if you use one)
  • i'm just buying a skirt and sheets. i looked at sets and could hardly find any i liked anyway, so i might as well save the money.
  • Target has some cute bedding that you can buy the sheets and the crib skirt separate from the bumper.
  • I don't think we'll go for the bed set for a number of reasons.  We were told no bumpers, unless mesh. Bed sets are pretty pricey, and since we're having two we're really trying to watch the budget.  Figure we'll put the money towards something else, since they won't be using the quilts or bumpers anyways.

I figure we'll find cute mobiles since those are sold seperately, and just get regular sheets and crib skirts. I was wondering where to buy crib skirts seperately, I'll have to check out Target like pp said.

  • I bought a 7 piece set with my daughter, but we only used the crib skirt, sheet, and valance.  I didn't want to use the same set with this little girl, so I just bought a crib skirt and matching sheet from Target.  I plan on buying a few more plain sheets that match the crib skirt since they're less expensive than the printed sheets.  I agree that the bedding sets are cute, but if you don't want to use the bumper or the quilt/blanket, then it seems like a waste of money!
  • We went with the whole set because it was so adorable I couldn't say no. The crib skirt is two separate pieces, and I thought the blanket and the pillow I would use for my rocking chair. I'm using the bumpers as long as they are firm enough and my crib has a canopy so all pcs will be used.

We got our stuff at PBK.   We got just sheets, a crib skirt, and a quilt.  We got the quilt to fold up and put over the rocking chair.   And the sheet is very plain....just the light blue gingham and a plain blue skirt.   We got breathable bumpersat BRU  since he got his arm stuck in the slats...otherwise we would have skipped that too.

  • I'll be buying separates. I might buy a baby blanket to use while in the rocking chair, but I won't be using a bumper, or a crib skirt (because baby will be in an arms reach co-sleeper for a while, by the time I put her/him in the crib it will be lowered and I won't even be able to use the crib skirt)
