Help! The boys have had that stomach bug...

for 10 days now. I have talked to the advice nurse about what to feed them to help clear up the diarrhea but it is not working at all. They would not eat plain potaoes or rice. They have their 9 month apt on Wednesday but wondering if anyone who has dealt with this has any ideas? I switched them from oatmeal to rice cereal to help and have been given them bananas, yogurt and mum mums and formila. Am I giving them something I shouldn't or is it just going to be like this. They were vomiting for a few days last week but that has stopped. They have also had white grape juice cut in half with water. Thanks for the input.

Re: Help! The boys have had that stomach bug...

  • My boys had it for 11 straight days. We had to cut out dairy, so he had to switch to soy for awhile and we were told no cereal or anything until it cleared up.

  • I hope they feel better soon!

  • Have you ever given them yogurt before? The cultures in yogurt are really, really good for upset stomachs. I wouldn't give them any yogurt now if they've never had it before, though.

So what did they eat, just soy formula? Did you have to slowly introduce it or just at once? Thanks!

I think I started yogurt about two weeks before they got sick. I will cut it out and see what happens. My husband said the same thing on the phone just a second ago:) Thanks!

  • Keep doing BRAT - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast - and stay away from dairy and fruit (as well as fruit juices). ?Keep them well hydrated with water or pedialyte (if they take that). ?I feel for ya - my girls have gotten the stomach virus twice this winter, and they still have diarrhea - it's neverending, and hell for Mom and Dad (especially when you end up getting it too). ?
  • florastor is a probiotic you can buy at the pharmacy over the counter and it can help resore the flora in the gut as well.
