I agree with all these points. It's absolutely a personal decision and women can, do, and should be able to do whatever they want. Nothing wrong with getting an epi.
That being said, I think being fully informed is also important. I wish that women in general were more fully informed about the pros and cons of all kinds of approaches to childbirth - drug-free, epis, narcotics, c-sections, everything. Then women in general would be better equipped to make their own decisions.
I don't care if women get epis or have 47 badges in their siggies saying they want an epi. And I have no way of knowing whether that particular poster did fully inform herself or not. My main point is that I hope she (and every other woman who possibly could) did. Making an informed choice is always better than making an uninformed choice.
fwiw, the badge itself has little to do with my own personal stance on the subject & more a middle finger in the general direction of smug ass-shats such as yourself that AW out your vag of steel.
May I interest you in a life raft before you drown in your own self importance?
My choice is not due to what any establishment has told me. I simply don't see why I should do it au natural just because people did it without before there was the golden epi. Awesome. People used to get their teeth pulled without Novocaine, but I'll be damned if a dentist gets near me with the drill and no needle to go along with it.
W. To each their own. No reason to preach it one way or another.
Women can do this naturally, we have done it for centuries, childbirth doesn't need to be a medical, scary thing.
And yet some women "mysteriously" died during or as a result of childbirth. Since I really would rather not become one of those statistics, I'll stick with my cesarean. Bite me.

ok, I just saw this on 1st Tri so this badge is new to me.
But really? on 1st tri you aren't exploring all your options. Sorry, it just bugs me when some folks just scream epi before even looking at going naturally.
I went natural but ened up with an epi to fix my tear(although looking back, totally unneccessary). I would go natural again after having the epi.
I know there are circumstances that call for an epi, and it is a personal choice yada yada.. but this badge just really bugs me!
FWIW - 'Baby Story' or whatever other ridiculous tv shows are out there, did NOT have any influence on my decision.
If I can't handle my monthly cramps without laying on the couch and crying and popping Motrin like it's going out of style, there was no farking WAY I was going through labor/childbirth without some sort of drugs. I have absolutely no tolerance for pain and I'll be the first to admit I'm a wimp.
I was bowing down to the genius who invented the epi after 36 hours of induced labor and contractions.

You do realize cesareans have risks as well, right?
You didn't scroll far enough, I agreed with the exception as I remembered the blinkies
Yeah, I'm a weenus today. Sorry, next time I will finish reading before posting! I was just reacting with "hey now, my blinkies were FUNNY, sheesh!" I'm not a ginormous fan of the badges, they aren't that interesting to me.
Did I say that I was glad someone mentioned the ticker? Yeah, that's completely annoying.
And speaking of ridiculously assinine badges, WTF is with that "If atheists are so secure why do they have such a problem with Christianity?" badge?
I've been drowning in Stupid all day but that takes the cake.
She's a speshul one, isn't she?
LOOK at who the poster is - she's the one that called BFers "cows" in 2nd Tri and inspired the "future cow" blinkies. And for pete's sake, her SN starts with "princess". That alone is asinine.

Nope, no freakin' clue...you know, 'cause I haven't already had one or anything.
But as I'd like to 1)stick around for a while; and 2)give birth to a living breathing babe, I'll take those risks.

The ticker is obnoxious, BUT I love that is starts two days after the birthday - I guess her kid didn't like her the first two days.

Oh, man! That was her?! LOL!
All I remember about her is that she and LOTR got into it about something back in the Age of DinoJebus so LOTR quoted princess in her siggy. Then princess paged LOTR requesting she take her name out of her siggy because she didn't want to get a reputation for "associating" with her.
On the flip side they can think (and probably do) that going natural in this day and age with modern medicine is unnecessary. This is really a "to each their own" type thing.
Modern medicine? Yes, very helpful for many circumstances, but it doesn't need to be an automatic thing. Women can do this naturally, we have done it for centuries, childbirth doesn't need to be a medical, scary thing. Yes, there are options, that is great but I just say look into some other options.
i definitely tried to go natural. made it to 6 cms. and then got an epi. i had a hard time with that for a while, but now i'm at the point where i love that i allowed myself medical intervention. and it totally changed that entire experience.
and now when i look at all my bradley books i realize they were written by a MAN.

Do you honestly think that women who gave birth centuries ago weren't scared? Lots and lots of women and babies died as a result of childbirth. From the historical accounts I've read it was very scary. I am so grateful that modern medicine has drastically reduced the number of deaths and made childbirth much less scary.
Re: Stab me in the back??? really?
Spot on, as usual.

Maybe we should have a Nest decree that no one, but Iris can make badges. Since she seems to be the only one who can make them funny.
?
BA HA HA. ? yay!?
LOL! That would be an awesome decree! Creampuff could be the one exception...
I swear if I have to deal with one more a$$hat today I will be in a snarky enough mood to make such a motion.
aokiedokie
Yes, Creamy should still be able to make the blinkies. To think I thought today was a boring Nest day for most of the morning.
Thanks for the props, Larks. BTW, this is MY badge:
Don't tell me I don't have a sense of humor. I just don't spend time on web graphics like I used to - remember my blinkies?
