Contractions on NST but not feeling them?

At my NST this morning, both babies looked great, but I was apparently having a few contractions.  I didn't feel them at all, even when the nurse told me I was having them!  They went back and forth over whether or not to send me to L&D, and decided that since they just about went away when I lay on my side, that I didn't have to go.  Plus, I have an appt again tomorrow with my OB anyway.

Did this happen to anyone else?  Did these contractions turn into anything?  The nurse was thinking it could have been just because I was lying on my back, or that I need to drink more water, etc.  I'd like them to stay in for at least 1-2 more weeks... any experiences?  Thanks, girls!

Re: Contractions on NST but not feeling them?

  • Good luck! I know when I was in labor with DD, I was having them 4 minutes apart for 2-3 hours and never felt one.  The nurse kept saying "Now?  Nothing?  Are you sure?"  But mine never stopped.  So take it easy and best wishes for you and your little ones.

  • This is one of my fears - that I will be contracting and not know it. Hopefully yours will calm down - stay hydrated and get lots of rest!

  • I experienced the same thing during both of my pregnancies.  With my daughter, I was having contractions that the NST was picking up, but I wasn't feeling.  This lasted for at least 2 weeks and then I was sent over to L&D for induction (for other reasons, not the contractions).  With the twins, the NST was picking up contractions, but again they were not happening in any sort of pattern.  In fact, it wasn't until I was being prepped for my scheduled c-section that they began coming in predictable intervals (but I still didn't feel them!).  Good luck!  Hopefully you can relax and take it easy until you talk to your OB.
  • Yep.  at every single one of my NST.  At one point they were every 2 min.  Its what put me on bedrest and turb.  I spent 5 weeks on turb. and 7 on bedrest before my boys came at 36 weeks.  They were taken section at an NST appointment because of contractions and heartrates.  GL

  • Oh yes, I had contrax on the NST for weeks that I didn't feel.  I was lucky that we went in to be induced, because what contrax really were like for me was nothing like I thought they'd be.  (I didn't feel anything really until after they started the pitocin and I was about 5-6 cm).  What is more important than the fact you are having contractions is how frequent and consistent they are. Your uterus is so expanded, it's going to contract. It doesn't really mean anything until they are regular and close together.  I would contract a lot more on the NST when I had to pee.  Stick out tongue  You are being seen enough it sounds like that if they were worried they would tell you.
  • I literally just returned from my NST in which something similar happened. The tech told me I had had at least one contraction - but I didn't feel it either!
  • Thanks, girls.  Hmmm.... guess I will just have to wait and see what is going on!  My FFNs have all been negative.  He'll do one last one tomorrow (34 weeks) and then we'll go from there (even though we know a positive FFN is not all that reliable).  I just wish I knew if something was really going on, or if I still have a little time left to get ready!  Thanks!
