I took DD to visit my grandma today, left around 2:30 (about her naptime) and of course she fell asleep on the way home and woke up when I brought her inside. A 15-minute afternoon nap just does not cut it, so I then spent a solid 45 minutes rocking, nursing, singing and fighting her to get her to go back down. But I was afraid if I waited any longer to try to get her down, she either wouldn't go back to sleep or wouldn't go down until 6 and the evening would be a mess (as it was, it took me until 4 to get her back down).
What do you do when naptime gets cut short? Let them stay up and play a bit before trying again? Do what it takes to get them back down? Give up on the nap and deal with the crabbiness and put them down early?
Re: What do you do when naps are interrupted?
depending on the time, I would try again to get her down and maybe wake her up early.... or the other option is like you said, just let her miss her nap and put her to bed early.
