Enfamil AR side effects??

We just switched DS to this formula because he was showing signs of reflux and the pedi said we should try this. We started yesterday afternoon and all seemed well, but tonight he seemed to be having really bad gas pains or a stomach ache. He would be fine and then out of no where he would cry out. I heard that constipation is a side effect...what did you do for that? I read on another site to split half and half. So use half the normal scoop of this stuff and half of his gentlelease. Help...so sad to see him so upset. TIA!!

my pedi told me one tbs of karo syrup with an ounce of water can help with constipation.  I had heard that the ar can do that, since to make the formula "gelitize" (don't know how to describe it...) it draws extra water from elsewhere. 

we decided not to use the ar.  ds takes prilosec and we have weaned him to smaller bottles more often during the day.  it's helped a lot.

DD1 used that for the same reason, and she had MAJOR constipation.  There wasn't much I could do, besides switch formula, which we ended up doing.  We used the Gentlease instead.

we just switched DS to this, and he was constipated yesterday. we did the thermometor trick (sticking the tip up his rear for 10 seconds) and he pooped today...TWICE!! yay! Try giving him some gas drops, or pushing his knees up to his belly, thats suppose to help with tummy aches too.

I don't have an answer but was wondering if you could mix formulas too...

We mix regular Enfamil and the AR about half and half and DD does perfectly fine this way. No constipation and no gas. And reflux problem solved!

DD has been on this for about 3 months ( I think?) and was constipated at first.  It did go away somewhat, but her poops are still pretty solid.    We switched to if for spitting up and it has gotten better, but we're still not spit free.  This is in addition to her taking Prilosec 2x a day.  She's a little over 7 months old.

We started DS on the AR when DS was 5 weeks old and it was a godsend for us. He had been projectile vomiting 2-3x a day from pretty severe reflux and losing weight and the AR was the only thing he could keep down. He did have pretty bad constipation so we gave 1oz of Gerber pear juice once or twice a day, ever day. i just put the juice in one of his bottles. The problem came when trying to switch back to regular enfamil lipil when my DS turned 6 months. We started doing 1/2 and 1/2 and he started pooping like crazy, like 4-5 times a day. We are now on 2/3 lipil and 1/3 AR and doing well so he must be finally getting used to it. I tried to switch totally over and it was all out diahrea. It makes me feel bad that the AR did such a number on his system. If you can get away with another formula or do 1/2 and 1/2 I would.
