one-year-old naps (long, sorry)

DD's naps have gone to H-E-double hockey sticks in the last week or so.  She used to follow our nap routine perfectly and settle herself down for an hour-long nap twice a day, sometimes three times.  Now she's hit or miss with her morning nap and she fights her afternoon nap.  She's currently fighting her morning nap.

She was teething, so I initially attributed it to that, but I'm pretty sure both teeth have now popped through.  Her daily routine has changed recently, so it could be that.  I've started back to school, and I'm gone four out of five nights a week.  She goes to stay with either my aunt or my grandparents for about an hour before DH picks her up.

I've also wondered if she's trying to drop a nap already, but she still acts like she's tired during the day...sometimes at her usual nap times, sometimes later.  Please tell me this will all even out soon!

  • Sounds like she's trying to drop a nap. Joe only does on 1.5 to 2 hour nap now....it has been this way for about 3 weeks.

  • It also sounds to me like she's ready to drop a nap.  We had serious struggles with Orion until we realized he only needed one.  He dropped down to one at 11 months.  I'd try keeping her awake in the morning and moving her afternoon nap to earlier.
  • Ditto the previous poster.  I'd try dropping one nap.  Elizabeth is the same age and we've pushed back her morning nap and dropped the mid-afternoon one.  It seems to be working okay for now.

  • Sounds like she is trying to drop a nap.  My 13 month old only takes one nap a day.  It is usually 2-2.5 hours long.  She goes down around 12:30 during the week and around 1:30 on the weekends (due to staying up a bit later and sleeping in).
  • Owen started dropping to one nap around 11 months but still sometimes took two until around 15 months. ?I would try one nap but know that she might occasionally need two (on days she gets up earlier, etc). ?The change in routine could definitely be affecting things, too.
  • I could have written this same post! Rena is fighting her morning nap and goes 30 minutes at the most. I've tried keeping her awake but she still acts very tired and doesn't make it past 11. So it seems like she still needs 2 naps, but the morning one is so short. And I think 9.5 months is a little early to drop down to one nap. I also thought it was teething but now I'm not so sure!
