Target Return Policy?

I have heard Target's return policy on gifts/registries is terrible and therefore people avoid registering there. I was just checking the policy out online and it didn't seem terrible. What am I missing?

Re: Target Return Policy?

  • if you don't have a receipt good luck trying to return anything, even if its on your registry.  They limit you to 2 returns without receipt a year (or something like that).  Even if you want to exchange for a size, you need a receipt.

  • Actually, I got two of something from my registry with no receipts. At the store, I was able to print the "purchase log" from the registry kiosk and show that the item was purchased and attributed to my registry.  They took the item back and gave me store credit in a gift card (and it didn't count against my 2 items per year).

For my family, BRU was too far away and Target was really the only option.

  • They offer registry look up but don't tell you it is only up to $250. So if you get items from Target that you need to take back, do gift receipts first. I took an entire cart in (got 2 swings and gyms and so many onesies) The customer service desk guy just did registry look up on all of it because it was easier for him. I had a receipt for the $150 swing but then I got stuck with a Diaper Genie and Wipe Warmer, still un-opened upstairs because I hit my maximum return. I argued for hours on the phone with the 800 number and got no where!

Would I do it again, yes. I like Target so much more than places like Wal-mart and Meijer, I would just learn from my return mistakes and insist they use my gift receipts.

Ditto - BRU was too far for most of my family - so Target was really the only other option...and I specifically asked the girl what to do if I ended up with duplicates or changed my mind.  She told me exactly what the pp said.  It probably depends more on who you meet at the customer service counter.  If you get too much grief - save your sanity - go home and come back another day or ask for a manager.
