Anyone have bunkbeds?

What age did you put your kiddos in them? ?We are considering moving K to a bed and will double up the boys when he does. ?I am not sure if we can fit two twins in the bedroom so we may have to do bunkbeds. ?E will be 4 in March, K just turned 2. ?E really wants to sleep on the top. ?Do you think it's safe?

Re: Anyone have bunkbeds?

  • We moved ours to bunk beds at 5 and 3.  They did great!
  • We got bunkbeds when Jakob was 5, but he would have been fine at 4.

    They have siderails.

  • I'm thinking of doing the same thing when Evan is closer to 4. ?Until then, the baby will have to stay in our room, since we only have 3 bedrooms.

I'm not so much worried about him falling out while sleeping as I am worried about him falling while getting in and out-- or just goofing around. ?We definitely don't have room for two twins, so our only other option would be a twin with a trundle that we pull out for Bennett to sleep on, and I don't really think I'd like that.?

  • We have bunk beds but my ds only sleeps on the bottom.  It clearly states on them the top is not recommended for anyone under the age of 7.  I also thought that was a belief by the American Association of Peds.  But I could be making that up.  It was definitly not the first time I heard the 7 rule.

  • We do...we bought them when Winnie turned 3 & Tess was still 1.  We bought a set w/ a trundle so Tess sleeps on the trundle & Win on the bottom.  We will move her up to the top bunk & Tess to bottom probably about when the new baby moves into their room (yes, we will have 3 kids in a small room)...So it'll probably be about when Winnie turns 5 & Tess is 2.75yrs old.
