Kiddie Portraits

How much on average do infant/child portraits cost at places like JC Pennys, Sears or BRU?  Is there a sitting fee and then you order the ones you like? I'd love input on which places you liked best and average cost.

Re: Kiddie Portraits

  • JCpenny!! They have coupons in just about every parenting magazine for a free 8x10, free sitting fee and 3.99 a sheet. I have had some great results with them. I'm actually picking up the prints from her three month pics tomorrow and they should be emailing them to me soon. Once they do I'll post them on my blog and you can see them. They are really good with Isabelle. The only down side is that they are often running late.

  • Just a note, I actually get a better deal money wise with my photographer. She has a home studio and I get the cd so I'm not choosing the prints that I want. I did Sears for a while until I found her. I totally recommend shopping around for a photographer.
  • I've had much better luck at Picture People than at Sears.  It's a little more, but they offer good coupons on their website and I think the quality is better.  Yuen Lui also offers monthly specials.

Cost wise: Last time at Picture People I spent about $50 and got an 8x10, 2 5x7 and one framed 5x7 with a digital mat. All were different poses.  This week at Yuen Lui, I spent $30 for one pose in an 8x10, 5x7, 4 3x5 and 8 wallets.  Sears was $38 for 4 poses but I don't remeber the sizes and that was with freebies and a coupon. The photos were so horrible I cancelled the order.

my siggy pic is form Picture People.

  • Ditto PP on better value with a photog. We paid $250 for the sitting, digital images and an enlargement print. We got 150 high quality photos taken at our house and and a park. They are beautiful. We can print as many in whatever sizes we want whenever we want. A friend of mine paid about $180 for 10 maybe 20 prints, none digital of pretty low quality pictures. The backgrounds are always cheesy and the photographers are total amateurs. You have to pick the photos right there in the store so you can't pull them up online and pick them at your leisure.

Shop around for photogs though, there are some that do rip you off...they'll say the sitting is free but then charge you a ridiculous amount for the pictures. These studios do that too.

  • I always use Yuen Lui, after doing Picture People once.  The girl had no idea what she was doing, took forever, and I had to pose Mason.  Yuen Lui has Children's Specials every 3 months or so, that I take advantage of.  You do have to pick one pose, but I don't mind for the quality of the picture and price I don't think it can be beat. Here is the link to their sale going on now through the end of January.

  • I go to JCPennys for the frequent pictures. I left with a stack of photo's last week, for just $20. I had coupons and no sitting fee.

I do suggest getting a pro session done every once in a while. It does make a world of difference, and I love my daughters pictures from her 1 year photo shoot.
