Success after IF

Converting from IUI to IVF

Hi!  II posted this on the TTTC board and thought you guys might be able to help too.  I'm wondering anyone can give me some info on this.  I'm not sure if it's something I can do, but I wondered if those of you with experience in this could fill me in.

Also, how did it work with your insurance?  I have coverage for IUI and meds but not IVF.  What was your situation?   Thank you!!!!

Re: Converting from IUI to IVF

  • My lucky cycle was converted from IUI to IVF!  I over responded (went crazy) on the inject. meds.  I had done 3 clomid cycles prior, with all BFN's.  B/c I was already on the road to making tons of eggs, they just kept me on a high dose of the inject. med's and changed my trigger shot (the office traded me for the one the pharmacy had already sent).  It took a little work with the insurance company (each cycle was pre-approved, so we had to change it) however the dr's office was able to make it work.  Let me know if I can answer any more questions.  The only issue I had was b/c it wasn't a traditional treatment, my eggs were over mature or under mature, so we didn't have any make it to freeze.  Also, I was on less Rx's than a traditional IVF procedure.  Good LUCK!

  • I was converted from IUI to IVF. I was on an my 3rd IUI w/ gonal F cycle (had done 2 w/ clomid) and had too many follies. Mine had to happen quick, so they just sent me ganorelix and I only took that for one night, the next ovidrel(which I had) and my ET was 2 days later. My insurance covered it. They called it in as an emergency and they approved it. We retrieved 8 eggs, 6 fertilized to 5 day blasts. We put 2 in, one was already hatching. And both took. We had one to freeze. GL!!!!
  • I too had a converted cycle. It was my second attempt at IUI after 4 unsuccessful rounds of clomid. I had no problem making lots of eggs and at my last check before the decision to convert, I had 12 follicles. My RE's nurses and the dept that handles your insurance worked absolute magic in such a short. I will forever be in debt to them, they were great. They upped my gonal-f dosage for two nights and then i had to take a shot to suppress my ovulation (gosh, i already forget what that was called, sorry). Then when they said I was ready they had me take the ovidrel shot. I was incredibly lucky and got 24 mature eggs at my ER. I transferred 2 back and they both took. If you have any other questions, feel free to page me!! : )

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Wow! Thanks you guys!  I never thought it would happen to me since this is my first cycle on injectables.   I went in for a 2nd follie check today and already have 15 follicles, 8 which are anywhere from 10-13.5mm.

The nurse at my doctor's office told me they couldn't convert the cycle because they haven't set it up with the insurance yet.  I will not be covered for IVF at all so I wonder if it's still an option for me.  I don't care for the nurse that called so I don't know if she really knows what she's talking about.

Also, What insurance do you have?  Does your insurance cover IVF?   What was the process the doctor's office had to do?  I am going to try my best to get this converted.  Do you have any advice about what I can do to make it happen?
