Success after IF

Not happy with Babies R Us

Well, I guess this is what I get for trying to be efficient...

I started my Babies R Us registry online recently to save myself a little time - there's always a long line at the registry desk at our local store.  I created it with only 5 items on it and figured I would go to the store to add the rest and get the free goodie bag that Babies R Us advertises you get for creating a registry.

Apparently, if you create your registry online, you do not get the free goodie bag.  I politely asked twice.  I'm thinking of calling customer service later to delete the registry.

Am I being overly sensitive?  This just doesn't seem right to me.  I realize the free stuff is probably not of much value, but I really hate being treated like I was trying to be dishonest in some way.

Re: Not happy with Babies R Us

  • I think you should call customer service, especially if you already talked to a store manager.  I was at the registry desk just last week and a lady walked up and said I registered online, would I be able to get the goodie bag?  And the registry lady said sure and handed it to her.  I would imagine you should be able to get it just like anyone else that is registering!  Good luck!  And I agree with you.

  • I registered online and when we went in I was able to get the bag.  Call customer service.
  • I wouldn't stress too much about the goodie bag - mine had a catalog, growth chart and one baby facecloth in it.
  • I got one when I went in the store but I think the woman was so busy that she just gave it to me..LOL.  I would call customer service!

  • I did the same thing you did.  We added a few items online and when we went to the store they gave us the dift bag.  I would call just for the principle of the matter, but in all honesty the gift bag isn't all that great.  There isn't too much in there, though the coupons are pretty cool.

  • I would call - I started mine online, and am planning on going to the store this week to finish.  That rule doesn't even make sense!

  • it is a ridiculous rule, especially when one considers it is WAY cheaper for BRU for us to make registries online. It saves paperwork, it saves payroll and it saves time. However, the way the system works, the store does not get 'credit' for the registry unless you start it in store. So the store generally is instructed to keep their spiff (goodies) for 'their' customers, because it comes off their bottom line. Is this stupid? yes, but typical.

On the flip side, when I ran bridal registry, we always saved some sort of goodies for our online customers, because they tend to spend about 35% more!

    ask for a manager.

  • our gift bag only had BRU ads and a sample of J&J baby lotion....  not even a washcloth :(
It sucks that they stuffed you, but I am not sure you are missing much.

Same here.  There were a few little samples that I put in the diaper bag.  Other than that, just ads.

But that is ridiculous on principle!

  • That must be new!  I started our in the store but added only a couple items while there and did 95% of my registry online.  That said, all I got was a box with promotional material telling me how I needed 10 of everything in the store.  But it sounds like the others got something useful (even if minimally useful!), so I'd certainly ask!  Good luck!

  • I understand what you're saying as far as the principle of the matter - I also have to agree that the goodie bag sorta sucked lol...I think I got a couple tiny lotion packets and a few coupons.
  • I did the same thing and they gave me the free goodie bag. It was a little box of mostly advertisements and I think maybe a pacifier-- nothing exciting at all. BUT it's not the box, it's the principle of the thing, and I would call customer service too.

  • Our bag had NOTHING....some samples and some coupons which they hand out/mail out freely anyway. You're not missing anything, but seriously...it's just a gift bag, they should have just given you one. You're saving them time!
  • I was told the same thing, but the woman gave us two of them anyway. And they got thrown out because it was just junk.
