When can I expect the blowouts to stop?

Um, J's a good pooper. Really, really good pooper.

I sware she *knows* when an outfit is new and that's the outfit she picks to poop in. At least half of her poopy diapers are blowouts. It drives me batty.

So, when can I expect these to slow down? We've tried both pampers and huggies (huggies is *better* at preventing the blow outs, but they still happen. ALWAYS up the back). She's in size 3's and they're supposed to go up to 28lbs. and she's only 17!

Is this a teething thing? I only slept about 2 hours last night and I'm thinking it's due to teething (again).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Ignore the weight listings on pampers. My kids are 25 pounds and in size 7. What we do to avoid blow outs is to get the next size up diaper but then just make sure the tabs are pulled across the waist as far as they will go (so the edges of the tape are touching each other and it is nice and snug around not only the waist but the legs too). The bigger size diaper has a larger capacity. This also saves money and money on not having to buy specialty overnight diapers.

  • Sabrina just started with blowouts so I have no clue. Of course I panicked - screamed, really - and DH came running. For her, it seems that they start when she's in between sizes, especially while wearing Pampers. She'll be too small for the next Pampers size, but perfect for the next Huggies size (meaning, she's wearing Pampers size 1, but is too small for Pampers size 2...but Huggies size 2 is perfect). I really prefer Huggies but she seems to outgrow them quicker and I always get these massive quantities of one size at a time....

  • You're making sure when you put on a new diaper that the ruffles are out, right?  The ruffles at the legs should all be pulled out and not tucked in -that helps contain blowouts some.

Yeah, I think part of it  right now is the teething.  When we got J started on solids more regularly that helped contain the blowouts as well b/c those poops were more... solid.  Are you feeding her bananas regularly?  That may help... solidify them.  Good luck!

  • My guy is a huge blowout-er.  I'd say 75% of poopy ones blow out.  We did get the next size up for night time and that helps.  He blew out twice this morning - once just on his outfit, and then once onto his outfit and all the way out onto the organic elephant toy I got him for Christmas! :(
  • I would go up a size. Lil G is 20 ish lbs and wearing size 5. I think teething = more runny poop.

Pampers Swaddlers come in a size 1/2 that is great when babes are in between a 1 and a 2. I thought it meant it was a mixed box of size 1s and 2s, but it's actually a specific diaper size.

Teething for us = lots and lots of blowouts : (

  • She's on solids more regularly (i.e. 2 times a day). I make sure ruffles are out.. blowouts most often occur up the back (which is why huggies tends to work better for us). I'll buy the next size up anyway. AND, the next food she'll be introduced to is banana's.

That and the 2 hours of sleep last night total have made it one interesting day....

    Thanks for your help!

  • Are you using cruisers or baby dry? We used cruisers, blowout everyday, outfit changes, etc... after Baby Dry, no blowouts!?
