Haha, I’m a big OrangeTheory gal, and right before I got pregnant I signed up for their annual challenge, I just have to go 3x a week for 6 weeks in a row (normally I go more than that) but this week I am STRUGGLING to make it in there! One class down, two to go by Monday.
My goal is to keep up with Orangetheory as long as it works for my growing body, make a lot of adjustments, and eventually switch over to yoga once my body tells me “im done!”
I am grateful that our obstetrician wants me to keep hiking and climbing for as long as it feels good (rather than subscribing to the old school Pregnant Women Shouldn't Do Anything More "Dangerous" Than Mall Walking mentality) but man these first weeks are kicking my butt!! I am so tired!! I hear you!
I’m a weight lifting girl. I love the gym and I’ve been trying to keep going at least 3x a week since I got pregnant. This week has been a rough one, though. I made it one time because I’ve been miserable.
So far I haven’t really modified my workouts, but I do pay close attention to my heart rate and extend my rest periods when I need to.
I do a pretty good variety of things, running 2x/week, in person Yoga 1-2 times a week and then I try to do a quick YouTube video on the other days of either yoga or strength training. I found a pretty cool YouTube channel that does strength training broken up by trimester. I believe it has about 21 videos per trimester. Those are kicking my butt 🤣
I teach yoga weekly as well as attending classes. I have an advanced inversion practice that I would like to hold onto in any capacity that my body allows- probably going to be more pike shapes than scorpions going forward. I teach Fridays and attend on Saturdays. I’m excited to explore the other limbs of my yoga practice more also, knowing I’ll have to unattach from parts of my asana practice.
I do crossfit, up to 4 time a week, but sometimes not at all (this week is a not at all week). Depends what's going on in my house, sickness etc. and when meetings are scheduled for work. In my first pregnancy I had placenta previa, and was put on pelvic rest, only allowed to walk at 20 weeks, so I'm hoping to not have that happen again. My doctors have always been in favour of me continuing going to the gym when pregnant, so fingers crossed nothing comes up that makes me stop entirely.
I really like to walk outside and plan to get back to walking when the snow melts.
I am so stoked that my doctor suggested taking creatine to help with staying active this first trimester. It's only been a couple of days but I know it's going to be sooooo helpful.
I seriously would not have guessed that was safe!! I am so excited!
I teach a yoga class tomorrow for the first time since finding out and experiencing symptoms. I’m nervous because I feel like my nausea is getting worse every day. It’s only a 1 hour class that I’ve taught a million times. I don’t plan on doing anything out of my routine for the class. I just don’t want to be nauseous during it. It’s an evening class so that’s usually when the nausea is the best and the tiredness is the worst. Im thinking lots of lemon water beforehand.
Update on teaching! It was a big class of 22 people!! It went great other than me being in my own head- but I don’t think anyone noticed except me. Updogs were the only thing I put in the class that I didn’t feel so comfy doing, I just did baby ones when demoing. I even took some time for myself after class to play in forearm stand and handstand before I can’t anymore. I think as things progress I’ll just have to demo less and less. Students do like the demoing & being able to see where they’re supposed to be. So maybe I’ll have to get more comfortable with physical adjustments and things like that to fill that instructional gap.
I try to do lots of different things (running, hiking, horseback riding, CrossFit) a couple times a week each. So far I’ve been able to keep it up (I’m about 8wks) except one morning I was just too tired and it was pouring rain. Horseback riding is my favorite thing and I’m worried it’ll be the first one to go (especially because my horse is unusually tall) but honestly exercising is one of the few times when I don’t notice the symptoms, so I’m hopeful I’ll be able to keep going until there’s just too much to haul around. I’m hopeful that building strength will make labor & recovery easier.
I have been having a rough time with morning sickness, and I can't handle any pressure whatsoever on my midsection. My pre-pregnancy leggings are no longer viable, so I ordered a pair of sized-up Lululemon Aligns and they are AMAZING. I can't wait to wear these at the gym tomorrow.
At 19 weeks I can still squeak out a handstand and a couple of forearms stands after I teach on Fridays. Harder each week but the skill is still there. Doing it now because I know at some point I won’t be for awhile! I hope everyone can harness some of that second trimester energy to do the things they enjoy before they can’t!
Pre-pregnancy, my friends and I had planned a mid-May climbing trip and I wasn't totally sure if I'd have it in me still. I was able to go!! (With OB approval, of course)
I took it easier than originally planned but felt good meeting myself where I'm at! Here's me doing an intentionally dramatic pose for fun 😂
