Short and curved femur (isolated) - anyone dealt with this?

I just got a call from my Dr - baby’s 24 week scan came back with a short and curved left femur.

No other areas of concern to be seen on the scan, skeletal system otherwise looks great, brain, heart and lungs all looking healthy as well. Also genetic testing is clear so she was able to rule out some of the more worry-some things.

I have to go in for a scan with the high risk Dr, but that won’t be for another few weeks at this point. I just have so many questions that my Dr can’t answer yet. It’s so hard not to think of the worst but I can’t let this plague me for the next few weeks and stress myself and the baby out. So I figured it would help to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation…

Has anyone ever had something like this happen or dealing with this currently? What was the outcome?

Thanks mamas 🙂

  • @knottie16cd3ab9d2b893d7 The fact that other areas of your baby's health are looking good is a reassuring sign. Many parents have faced similar concerns during their pregnancies, and there are often outcomes that turn out better than expected.

Connecting with others who have been through a similar experience can provide valuable insights and support. It's also beneficial to keep an open line of communication with your healthcare providers; they can guide you through this waiting period and help address any lingering questions as they arise.

Remember, staying positive and managing stress is essential for both you and your baby during this time. You're not alone in this journey, and reaching out for support is a great step forward!

  • This is sooo late but I had a friend in high school who was born with a shortened leg (in fact, her biological parents in China put her up for adoption because of it. And when I say put her up for adoption they literally threw her in a dumpster. But anyway) and and the only difference in life for her really was she had to have extra padding on one shoe and she had a little bit of a limp. She was super athletic and did competitive ice skating, though! I don't know about her femur, but because it looks like there are no additional concerns, I think baby will still lead a relatively normal life! You obviously have more info than I do and hopefully more answers by now, but I wish you and your family happy and wonderful lives!
