2nd Trimester

Itchiest skin!

I'm 18w pregnant and have the itchiest skin ever on my chest, shoulders, back and some parts of the legs. I've gone to a dermatologist and checked with my OB on the meds they recommended but honestly it's been 1.5 weeks and it hasn't really dissipated at all.

Does anyone else have this and have anything to recommend? I've been trying CeraVe anti itch cream and trying cold compresses to distract but it's just so itchy!!

Re: Itchiest skin!

  • I did oatmeal baths / making oatmeal and just using it like a salve on the itchy places … for me it was my belly, the most effective was putting paper towels covered in cold oatmeal under my maternity pants so the band held them in place 😂
Dehydration can also exacerbate itchiness, so try and drink extra as well!
  • Thank you so much!! Going to try this!

  • For my bump, I’ve been using Honest’s Bump Love Bundle after every shower I take. You may also want to consider their Clean Curves Cleansing Oil to use in the shower to provide extra barrier all around. I have really sensitive skin and have a lot of topical skin allergies, and Honest Co products have worked well on me.

I also use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (Dry to Very Dry Skin) which is great for the winter and overall moisturizing. Summertime or as a backup, I use Aveeno Fragrance Free “intensely nourishes dry skin”. Not as thick as Cetaphil, so I would try Cetaphil first on after going through the Clean Curves Cleansing Oil in the shower and applying the Bump Love Bundle after you shower (Glow On Oil and Body Butter).

agree with previous posts, hydrate yourself sufficiently throughout the day. When I’m out, I make sure I always have my hydroflask with water, and refill throughout the day!
  • Hi. At your next dr’s aptmt, ask your dr go check your bilirubin. Ask them to rule out cholestasis.
  • Just as update, thank you everyone for working and for anyone else who experiences the same. I was advised to take Claritin during the day, Benadryl at night which worked like a charm immediately. My rash has cleared. I did testing for cholestasis and additional liver tests but I had no itchiness on my hands or feet at all. Still not sure what I was having allergic reaction to but I had gone through ever cream and was using cold compresses every 2-3 hrs so this is a relief
