*TW* Bleeding/Spotting/Threatened Miscarriage Thread

This thread is for support and questions around spotting/bleeding.

Conversations surrounding these issues can be discussed here freely. The TW in the title applies for the whole thread. Please beware of reading ahead if you think you might be triggered by conversations about spotting/bleeding.

Finally, remember that most of us are not medical professionals, and even if we were, it's always best to call/visit your doctor with questions or concerns. Feel free to ask questions and voice concerns, but please do not expect anyone here to be able to offer you anything but support. The most important thing to do is to call your doctor. They can offer answers; we can offer support. 🖤

  • Now I’m questioning posting this…..having some light pink spotting now when I use the bathroom. Hoping it will stop soon 😢 and not turn red. I had red spotting with both of my 5 week losses.
  • Sending prayers that everything will be okay. Being a mama after loss is hard, and even harder to stay positive. Take it easy and rest up.

Spotting can be normal in early pregnancy. I know this knowledge won't alleviate your fears, but since you are worried, you could talk to your doctor. They usually have the best insight with our medical past in hand.
    How far along are you?
From what I can remember from the losses I have experienced, I spotted a few hours before I started bleeding. Always red blood.
Some of my friends experienced spotting on and off during the first trimester and had a beautiful pregnancy.
Hopefully, it is just a bit of first trimester spotting. ❤️
  • @froggerblue I’ll be 7 weeks tomorrow. I will definitely call the doctor Monday if the spotting doesn’t stop today. Definitely watching for the red blood because that was my first sign before too. Hoping it’s just irritation of some sort.
  • I’m 6w0d and have had brown spotting on and off for 3 days now. I called my OB and they scheduled me in for an ultrasound that same day. Everything was measuring exactly on track.

My OB said that brown blood is old blood, but if the spotting turns pink or red, I can anticipate a miscarriage. She put me on “pelvic rest” until my next visit in 2 weeks, when we can hope to detect a heartbeat.

I’m hoping for the best and attributing the spotting to sex and exercise (weightlifting specifically). This is my 3rd pregnancy and the only one where I’ve had spotting. OB advised being “cautiously optimistic.”
  • Also started spotting last night, I kinda hate waiting to see what happens.
  • Thank you for sharing Knottie - I plan to call Monday. It has turned to brown spotting for me. @whatabout2ndbreakfast thinking of you!
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast I'm so sorry! Best of luck for a future pregnancy
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast I'm so sorry. Heart goes out to you and your family ♡

@whatabout2ndbreakfast Thinking of you <3 I'm so sorry for your loss.
  • I passed about a 3 inch clot this morning it looked like it had tissue as it was grey in color with bright red. I go in at 1pm for an ultrasound and they are going to have me still go in and see.
  • Thank you ladies, it was confirmed I miscarried this morning. Lifting you all up in prayers for your December babies
  • I'm so sorry ♡
  • So sorry 💔
  • So sorry to hear @rosesintherain and @whatabout2ndbreakfast. 💗 Sending you both warm thoughts.
  • @rosesintherain I'm so sorry to hear that
  • Yesterday I thought I noticed some brown spotting but I wasn't sure. Today the brown spotting is for sure and I feel a bit crampy. I am going to rest and hope for the best.
  • I'm still not sure what's going on for me this pregnancy. There is a care provider shortage in my area and despite my best efforts I haven't had any prenatal care. I don't know if the brown spotting I experienced is bad news or just related to irritation. I have called multiple midwives offices, a health care line, and tried walk in clinics. Everywhere is too busy right now and tells me to call someone else. I know other people in my area are in the same situation so there is nothing I can do but wait and hope someone calls me back soon with an appointment availability.

  • @jaselizabeth that's so frustrating! Has the spotting stopped instead of progressing?
  • @bluecampanula Yeah, it did stop a couple of days ago. It was noticeable for 3 days but always very light.

Fingers crossed I can get in for a blood/urine test somewhere sometime soon. I sent out applications to all care providers within a 500km radius today.
  • I hope you get your appointment soon. I know it's stressful when you want answers and you need to wait.
  • So sorry. Praying for you.
  • Good morning! I am just needing to release some anxiety so I thought I would share with you ladies. I am FINSLLY supposed to have my first appointment tomorrow morning which should help give me some answers. I should be 9 weeks tomorrow.  I have been wiping very, very light pink when I go to the bathroom off and on since I found out I was pregnant. On Sunday after doing a bunch of housework (cleaned my bathroom, mopped, vacuumed my bedroom, changed sheets and dusted) I used the bathroom and wiped a lot of blood. It never flowed into my undies - just when I wiped. Since then, I have had a small amount of blood every few times I use the restroom. This is my 2nd (unplanned) pregnancy at almost 40 yrs old and I have been so worried about something going wrong since I found out. I know it could be nothing, but it could also mean this pregnancy has not worked out. I am so anxious for my dr visit tomorrow. I just really need to know either way. Thanks for listening - mostly just needed to vent. 🤍
  • @mojoesposito I hope your appointment went well 💓

So, how's your appointment with your doctor? I hope everything's fine at your end, @mojoesposito
  • @nken20 Thank you! The appointment went really well. He said that my cervix is very “friable” aka sensitive, which is why I have been bleeding so much. It’s hormone related and should get better in the next few weeks. Sure is scary though!
  • Hey ladies, I’m 12 weeks +3, and just went to the bathroom to wipe bright red blood. It didn’t get to my underwear, but I had to wipe a few times for it to lighten. No obvious tissue or clots. No painful cramping. No other bleeding since last period 3 months ago. I have an appt on Wednesday, I guess im hoping for success stories?

When I miscarried, I spotted for a couple of hours before the heavy bleeding started. So I quickly knew something was wrong since heavy bleeding isn't a good sign.

That said, some spotting in the first trimester can be normal. Did you have sex recently? Sometimes the cervix is more easily irritated (even without intercourse) and it can cause light bleeding. If it's not more than spotting, I would ask your doctor's opinion on your appointment Wednesday. You could call your doctor if you are worried, but for most people, a bit of spotting doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.
If the bleeding is heavy and fills a pad, I wouldn't wait and I would go to the hospital.
I hope things go well for you! ❤️
  • Thanks for your reply. I haven’t had any red bleeding since the initial post, and when I wipe it’s either clear or light pink. I also miscarried in 2021 @7 weeks and like you mentioned, there was ALOT of blood. I think I just got triggered when I saw it, but I’ll update the group after my appt on Wednesday! 🤞🏾
  • Also to answer your question I hadn’t had sex that day or the day before

It's normal. We all get worried when there's blood. Hopefully it's nothing and your cervix was just irritated. It's pretty common after intercourse, but it can also be because of other reason. It could bleed for a completely unrelated reason too, but, if it's not heavy and you are not in a lot of pain, hopefully it'll be nothing that would affect the pregnancy like for my sister and my friend. They both experienced light bleeding and still had a nice pregnancy. I'll wait for good news!! ❤️
  • Good news so far! The doc didn’t seem super concerned once I told him the bleeding Lightened then stopped. Baby girl’s heart rate was a strong 166 so we’re still in the game 🤞🏾❤️
