My initial reaction is that it seems like a recently invented name. I Googled it though and apparently it's a last name. I'm not personally a fan of turning last names into first names, but I know there are some common names now that started out that way.
In the wild, I expect you will see that many people assume it is made up and may have trouble with pronunciation (ah-vett vs ay-vett)
Agree it’s more of a last name than a first name. I don’t think it’s horrible but I do think people would get confused whether it’s his first or last name. Recommending Rhett as an alternative.

Like @swoff said, I'm not 100% sure on the pronunciation. I think "ay-vett" is cute and does have the feel of Avery or Ava which are super popular right now, so this could be a cool twist. However, "ah-vett" reminds me of the girl's name Yvette. I always say though, if you and your family (partner, other kids...not extending it out further) love the name, go with what makes you happy.
