1st Trimester

6 weeks 3 days Ultrasound. Twins?

I went for an elective ultrasound and my tech stated she thinks it’s to early to tell but could not rule out twins!? Going for another ultrasound next week but just curious if any moms early ultrasound looked similar and was twins? I would be so stoked!
Thank you!

  • 1st if all, why are you exposing your baby to unnecessary ultrasound waves?  Second. Patience is key to pregnancy and being a patent.  3rd - where do you even see twins?  If an ultrasound tech cannot tell you just shows how unreliable the boutique places truly are.

    you’re a ray of sunshine aren’t you?
I was bleeding so I elected for an early ultrasound if you MUST KNOW. The tech herself said she couldn’t tell yet if it is or isn’t twins. I’m not assuming.
I’m literally just seeing if any other moms has had an experience like this. I don’t know why you have to be so rude.

  • If you had bleeding it could be a SCH.
  • Sorry, not rude: boutique ultrasound shops are not highly trained.  And, yes having unnecessary ultrasounds is an issue as you have no idea how the Soundwaves affect baby.
If the tech couldn't tell then how do you think internet strangers can?  Sorry but truth. Not rude!
  • Uhm…yes…extremely rude. She didn’t ask for your opinion on the ultrasound waves. Are you a doctor? Have you studied the dangers? Also, these pages are for pregnant women to connect and learn from one another’s experiences so it’s totally appropriate for her to ask if anyone else has anything like this before. She was not asking for a diagnosis. Jesus. I seriously have not seen more rude, snarky, people anywhere more than I’m this site. I don’t get it.
  • @bren9019 no not a doctor,  but know that doing scientific studies of how ultrasound waves affect baby are unethical.  You cannot have a control group and a study group due to ethical cause!!!

I know enough about science that there is not any study to show.

How does one person's ultrasound give answers to someone else's ultrasound?  The tech had no clue either! To me it looks like the black hole in The universe!

So instead of practicing patience - waiting until when a ultrasound for dating at a real doctors facility can actually happen with techs that actually know how to read an ultrasound- to get more definite answers another UNNECESSARY ultrasound is being used.

  • There are actually many studies of ultrasound safety in a variety of settings (though you’re right- they don’t do tests on pregnant people). While at high frequencies and for extended durations, some dangers may be present, this is much different than what is used in fetal ultrasounds. This has been used for medical diagnostics, including in obstetrics, for decades- long enough to have determined that it is safe.
  • @harseal135 I agree with you on a lot, but saying 1 extra ultrasound is unsafe to the baby is literally falling down the misinformation pipeline. If that's the case then my first born should be severely impaired because I had so many more ultrasounds due to being in a study, which lasted way longer than a typical ultrasound as they were taking very specific measurements for said study. Stop the fearmongering. As you put it, I'll put my trust in the Md/PhD's at UPenn over internet strangers.

  • @stashattack not fear mongering - I'm far from that.

I fully agree that ultrasounds are necessary for MEDICAL reasons not just for fun.  The elective early ultrasounds is what I am aiming at!  My kiddo had to have a very extensive ultrasound.  Though we do not truly know.  Just like medicines:  I can take a high dose of vicoden for preoperative reasons and it has ZERO affect on me, yet someone else the effect would be less pain post op-  everyone and every baby is different.  Same with this there can be no true study.  We can use data from ultrasounds given, but there is no control group.  That is what I was trying to say.

I do not agree with ultrasounds for sh## and giggles - just because - but I do agree they are absolutely necessary for medical purposes.  If a doctor feels it's necessary, then do it.
  • You literally said that ultrasound could hurt her baby... which is false... fear mongering. I agree I think boutique US places are preying on women's insecurities about having babies and miscarriages. But do I think that it'll hurt the baby for someone getting one? Fuck no. And I'd never say that.

You can dislike something without telling someone that doing the thing you dislike will lead to harm..

  • It is rude. She’s seeking for help or advice. It’s all how you said it. You could’ve easily just educated her in a nice way instead of making a smart comment. Honestly, no one was upset about honesty it’s all how people say things. It’s all of our first time on this world and first time being moms for some of us.. be nice. It’s really that simple.
