@justyouraveragemama Man that's tiny. My daughter was out of newborn clothes at 11 *days*! Like she was too big for her going-home outfit I brought to the hospital and wore a 3-month outfit home instead.
We're on day 3 of skipping nap and I AM NOT A FAN. She still stalls bedtime just as much, and still wakes up overnight a few times, but now I just got my solo time during the day cut in half because even though we have Big Girl Playtime in her room for an hour instead of nap (with her choice of a few quiet activities -- puzzles, sewing cards, blocks, and her Barbie dollhouse, play kitchen, and a handful of favorite stuffies are in her room too), she starts coming out at 30 minutes to ask how much longer. Tips for this transition period to teach her to LEAVE ME THE EFF ALONE?
@ki1244 no advice, just solidarity. Life was rough for us for a little while after the nap drop. Well, I guess maybe a suggestion. Have you tried an ok to wake clock? We use the hatch for keeping DS in his room in the morning and it’s been wonderful. I bet you could use it for quiet time too and slowly build up the time she has to stay in her room?
I’ve been having the worst constipation and I finally broke down to do something about it. The midwife suggested magnesium calm (that’s the brand) and tmi but I took some for the first time today and had a not too painful bm despite having a hemorrhoid!
Since my expected due date is aug 1, I wanted to share with all of you I officially hit the 20 week mark!! Wohoo!! Half way there and wow time flew! Feels great though and at this mark, baby is kicking more and more everyday (especially at night)
I don’t understand why anyone would come barreling into a place and demanding that everyone do things their way just to suit them. It’s rude. I was nice to her. I could have been way harsher.
@ki1244 we got the Hatch when my son was struggling with naps and it helped tremendously. I let him pick out the color it was during his nap and always left it as green to be the color it turned to tell him he was allowed to leave his bed. Good luck! The transition times with kids is so tough.
My oldest daughter got invited to join the pre professional program at her studio. I’m bursting with excitement about this. It does mean a bigger time commitment but not necessarily more than I think we can handle. I’m looking at all the dates and requirements closely before I agree to it but I’m so proud of her.
Baby’s movements are getting so much stronger all of a sudden! This morning I laid in bed for like 30minutes after I should have been up because it was having a party lol
i feel like I should be able to feel them from the outside pretty soon! I’m so excited for SO to be able to feel it!
Anyone else do a bracket? Related, anyone else get blinded by their love of Tony Bennett and pick Virginia over Arizona in the Elite Eight, with Virginia winning the whole thing, only to have their entire bracket shattered two games in? No? Just me then.
@ki1244 I’m not even sure what you’re talking about. Something to do with sports? I don’t follow sports at all.
We went to the lake today. We were out there for 3 hours. The sun was so bright and reflecting off the snow that my face got burnt. The kids found a part of the river that was flowing freely and decided to use it as a water fountain. I love all the things they discover and do when we play in nature. It was 14 degrees when we arrived and the sun didn’t come out until later in the day. I decided last minute to prep some body and hand warmers and I’m glad I did. It felt really cold when we first got out there. By the end the kids were shedding clothes. When we got home we did school. I’m anxious to get done with the year so we can just enjoy all the sunny days.
@emeraldcity603 ha yeah, NCAA basketball. March Madness officially started yesterday and typically that's a holiday in our house. Basketball games on four channels all day which is a dream for my husband and still a lot of fun for me.
It was sort of a bummer to not actually get to *watch* them until dinner (we did a special dinner in the living room to watch basketball together over buffalo chicken salad, lil smokies, and chips with the homemade salsa and hummus my daughter and I made earlier in the day - so game junk food with a healthy twist!) but I still got to follow a bit and catch up on scores during her quiet time in her room. But of course that's when I learned my entire prediction bracket was ruined because the team I picked to win the whole thing lost in the first round.
@ki1244 my husband did a bracket with our toddler lol. He printed out the mascots and made her pick all through the bracket. Lots of bears, cats, and dogs made it to the top.
@msjaay I totally meant to do one with my daughter but forgot. But she picked teams last night based on whose uniforms looked most like Daddy's Team. ❤️
Baby has been doing all sorts of shifting and rolling around, which is surprising to feel since I was told I have an anterior placenta! I think this boy will be a wild one. I've been trying to get in the habit of talking to him during the day, partly to train myself to refer to my husband as "Papa" as that's what he wants our babes to call him 😂
My son is getting his first belt stripe in jiu jitsu today and I’m so excited for him! He makes me so proud with how he has fallen in love with the sport and how he has grown in such a short time. He’s going to be so surprised when it happens
also, I love all you mamas feeling baby moving around. I hope I’ll be feeling my babe move soon.
I bought my sister as a bday gift a nice couples massage for her and her husband and nice dinner at the Brazilian steakhouse plus allotted time for babysitting her 20 month old son. My SO loves their son they are just two peas in a pod and my nephew doesn’t want any part of me when I’m there only my SO. Just excited to spend a lot of hours alone babysitting the little one. He had a rough night yesterday so I’m glad I can give my sister and her husband a break.
Just went out to feed and put up our chickens ended up in a battle royale with my large rooster he’s been getting more and more aggressive the further into pregnancy I get his days are definitely numbered meanwhile inside my daughter threw her favorite stuffed animal at my husband knocking over his whiskey glass saturating her stuffed animal his slippers the couch, rug, blanket on the couch and end table 😧 anyone have some tips to get the smell of whiskey out of stuffed animals? Never thought I’d be trying to figure this one out lol
Ugh poor DD has strep but the pharmacy closed before we could get her antibiotics. Hoping Tylenol is enough to help with the pain tonight. She’s had a fever all day and no real appetite.
@gingermama29 that’s terrible I’m so sorry she’s going through that tonight I’ll keep her in my prayers hopefully you can get her in to see someone or get her meds in the morning
Ugh DS started crying while peeing in his diaper today. Happened twice. I think this is our first UTI Our doctor is open on Sunday’s so we’re heading there today. He also has a diaper rash that was bleeding. I feel so so bad for him.
@ccmrc143 that’s terrible 😞 hopefully he’s just crying because the pee is irritating the rash either way so glad your doctor is able to get him in so quickly
@AlexisJoy92 that’s a great point, I wonder if that’s what it is. But the diaper is so absorbent I wonder if the pee could really trickle down that much. If so then I feel like the doctor might be a waste. He did say “pee hurt” and when he has diaper rash he says “butt hurt” so hopefully this is the right call!
@gingermama29 wow that is a terrible combo. I’m so so sorry for her and you. Hopefully the symptoms for ay least one of them will stop asap!
@gingermama29@ccmrc143 your poor kids! Hopefully they can bounce back quickly after getting the right meds.
Thanks to all the suggestions for using an OK to Wake clock, we used our Hatch and boom! My daughter stays in her room for quiet time. But... she's so, so overtired without a nap, which leads to night terrors. Uggggh boo. She's finally taking one today (we maybe didn't give her the choice, it was "you seriously need this, so you can lay there awake or lay there asleep") but she's just been a mess all week without a nap. Hopefully that was a phase... I liked the earlier bedtime (out of her room by 8:30 rather than our usual 9ish) but not the piercing screams on repeat.
When your husband pisses you off it's super normal to rage-buy jelly beans, right? I love the man but on my first solo time in 10 days it is fully and entirely unnecessary to call me three minutes after leaving the house because the kid woke up from nap crying.
@ki1244 called to tell you or call so you would come home? I would be livid if it was to come home. He needs to man up and be a parent. That’s just not right.
@emeraldcity603 just to tell me. Like I can do something about it? "Just in case it happens again to you." Uh, well, that's pretty my much a guarantee she will cry upon waking at some point so leave me the eff ALONE.
@ki1244 8/10 my kiddo will go right back down within a few minutes if I don’t rush in there to him. Sometimes I’m in the basement and he is 2 floors up and I have to get to a stopping point with my other kids and walk up all the stairs. It takes a few minutes. If he doesn’t go back down it’s always because he has pooped.
I took my 18 month for his well visit today and told her about our snotty nose incident at my mom group. She said that it was ridiculous that he was removed when he had no other symptoms. She wrote me a letter stating the recommendation for when a child can and can’t stay in a daycare setting with a runny/snotty nose. She also said color and consistency means nothing as far being more contagious. She said no one should be staying home with cold symptoms that aren’t accompanied by fever or a cough that is so bad it’s disruptive. Since I started attending another group, I felt it would be best to be armed with a note from the doctor since he has a chronic snotty nose.
Preschool drop-off interactions: 1. Sub teacher for the 5s class opens the door. "Awww, when are you due?" Me: August! Her: "Oh! Wow. That's a ways off still! Poor thing, having to get through the summer." Clearly she was surprised I'm that far off.
2. One of my daughter's little friends' mom: "wait, baby sister? Are you having another one?" Me, in my head: "um, yes? Did you think I just let myself go this much? I'm HUGE."
I love comments about pregnancy. I'm not offended in the slightest by any of it (except the dude at the grocery store last time around who asked if I'd dilated yet when I was 34 weeks, that was awkward) but find it all pretty funny.
@ki1244 oh wow the grocery store guy asking about a dilated cervix? That’s weird!!! Good for you not being offended by comments! I haven’t had anything too terrible yet. Although last night DH said to me “for a second I forgot you were pregnant and thought wow she’s gotten fat” 😭😭😭
I have a cold! I’m all achey and have post nasal drip. It’s not covid. I’m throwing myself a pity party and staying in bed today. DS is at the other kid’s house for nanny share so I need to take advantage of the quiet. My company sent us door dash gift cards so I’m deciding between soup from Panera or soup from a pho place
I’m eagerly awaiting my Amazon registry box today. From reviews it seems you either hit the jackpot or basically just get coupons so I’m hoping we get something good!
@justyouraveragemama he’s not wrong!!! I got soup for myself and DH and he goes “I love paying for someone to pour soup from a giant plastic bag and heat it up for me” 😂 It was mostly paid for and I got what I needed to survive the day!
Ok, so, the Panera talk is making me laugh because I went there once and I ordered the white cheddar mac & cheese and swear it was the pasta-roni box. It tasted exactly the same.
The Amazon box! It did also come with some cetaphil body wash samples and an aquaphor sample but I tossed those. The lactation cookie also expires in July so that’s cool😅
@justyouraveragemama The swaddle is awesome. In the past I have always gotten the ugliest blankets that I would never use. Plus bottles and pacifiers I don’t typically use. Honestly, my babies don’t usually take to pacifiers. I also toss the little samples. I never use them. I have heard the target box is a good one too.
