Babies: 3 - 6 Months

3 month old sleeping too long??

Hi my precious boy just turned 3 months on 2/13. He has started sleeping 9-11 hours through the night. I’m wondering is that healthy? Should I be waking him up? I don’t want to deprive him of food but I’m sooo sleepy. And 11 hours seems like a scary number to be sleeping all the way through. Help mommies… what do you guys think?

  • 11 hours does sound like a long time for a 3 month old to go without eating. Is he gaining weight appropriately? How many wet diapers each day? I'd ask your pediatrician (and if breastfeeding, lactation consultant) how long his longest stretch should be, then wake him up at that time. They might say let him be if he's growing and hydrated enough, but they might have you wake him after 5-6 hours

  • The same thing happened to us but starting at 2.5 months! Our ped said to not mess with it lol I think we just got super lucky! Mine sleeps up to 12 hours and at that point I wake her! She honestly sleeps more now than when she was a newborn! As long as baby is gaining weight and has regular wet diapers, then I’d say just let him sleep :)
  • My son sleeps 12-13 hours every night. When he was a newborn he slept 10-12 hours a night. His pediatrician said it was fine since he was gaining weight and hydrated enough.
  • Around 12 hours a night is ideal!! This is not dangerous and is actually the goal. Babies who sleep through the night consolidate their feedings during the day, just like we do as adults. Congrats on getting more sleep!
  • my baby sleeps about the same! I was worried too but our ped said it was totally fine since baby was gaining weight! She has her 4 month appt mid July hopefully everything is on track!
  • My little girl is 3.5 months and is sleeping 12 hrs a night. I actually came on here to see if anyone else was experiencing this. Glad to know it seems normal!
