Thought on the name Rydell

Hi All,

I’m about half way through my pregnancy with our second child, a girl due this summer. We’ve decided to name her Rydell Mary.

What are your thoughts on this name and do you think it pairs well with our sons name; Henry

Any suggestions are most welcomed,
Thanks :)

Re: Thought on the name Rydell

  • Sorry, but there is much better for your daughter.  Henry is such a strong name in comparison to Rydell that seems made up/stretching it

Just some suggestions to start thinking:
    Jolene
    Eloise
    Norah
    Miriam
    Ivy

  • I agree that Henry and Rydell don't really match, if that's important to you. As for other thoughts about the name, it's easy to spell and pronounce, and doesn't seem to have any obvious variations for teasing. It does seem either made up, or a last name used as a first name (which is not an uncommon thing to do). The vibe I get from it is very Appalachian or Southern.

Some ideas for types of names that match with Henry, I would think classic and old-fashioned:
    Charlotte
    Elizabeth
    Catherine
    Grace

  • Brings to mine Rydell High from Grease.
I love Henry but dislike Rydell. It is much trendier and feels cheap compared to Henry. If it has special meaning to you maybe use it in the middle as Mary Rydell goes better with Henry.
  • Not gonna lie, I was shocked when I opened the post and saw it was for a girl.

I too only think of Grease associations and think it doesn’t pair well at all with Henry, which is a classic name.

If you like the sound of it and want to do masculine on a girl, Riley would be a better choice, IMO.
  • I also thought this was going to be for a boy.
