Trying not to phone it in at work this week, but it’s teach required pre-planned lessons + I’m recovering from a doozy of a cold, so phoning it in seems highly likely. Sigh.

I'm seriously sick of this one person I have to work with. 
 
I was hired into my position because the Lead Scientists (PIs) at my job need more support with managing their grants. Because the office that is responsible with that is understaffed and Oncology is an overwhelming department because of the amount of funding the PIs receive. 

And we have documented evidence that PIs have struggles getting that office isn't super communicative (something I've seen first hand), and we've had instances where funds aren't being spent out by the end of the grant year, things not be allocated correctly, PIs feeling blind in where their funding is. IT's a hot mess.

Well one of them feels personally called out by how I tried jumping in and trying to help our office bridge the gaps in trying to clean stuff up and trying to stimulate better communication. She let it loose on me in a small group meeting between me, my boss, and her boss. And the lack of communication still continues with her. One of the PIs we manage together has a grant that expired in December, invoicing is due soon, and we have $6.4k left to spend down, carryforward from prior years not complete, on top of prior year invoicing that still needs to be complete. I emailed her back in Jan for an update. Nothing. Poked her again today. If this doesn't get resolved, the PI, who already had to send back $44k because of similar errors from a different employee earlier this year, will have to send this $6.4k back. And he's going to be PISSED. He's already livid with a bunch of stuff going on right now with his grants and this will just one more thing.

@stashattack Ugh. I used to be an academic scientist and I completely feel your pain. Given how hard it is to get those grants, it’s absurd to have to return it because people aren’t doing their jobs! Sorry you’re stuck dealing with the problem that isn’t yours.

@maggiemadeit right? It's crazy the hoops y'all jump through to get funding (i'm also married to a phd, but he's in a different department at the same hospital so I get it from all angles LOL). I just hate the resistance when we all have the same goal, to make sure the PIs spend the money they get within the grant terms. So like why can't we just work together bah!!
