Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleep training during 4 month regression?

My baby started sleeping through the night just before he turned 3 months old, and would go anywhere from 8.5-11 hours straight each night. He just recently hit the 4 month regression and wakes up about 2-3 times during the night, and three nights in a row I fed him in the middle of the night to get him to go back to sleep, not knowing what else to do because he was crying. We just transferred him to his crib, which he's taken to well the first night, except for waking up in the night and I'm trying to implement the Ferber sleep training but wondering if he is too young. I figured he might be ready because he was previously sleeping through the night, and I really don't know what else to do because everyone says not to feed in the night during the regression so I feel like I have no choice.

Hi! My son went through a similar regression at about 3.5-4 months. He had also been sleeping through the night before and we didn’t know what to do when he would wake up. I didn’t feed him. I just rocked him back to ALMOST asleep and put him back down. He was still in a bassinet in our room. We didn’t transfer him to his crib until after the sleep regression was over, but if your baby is already in the crib during daytime naps he’s probably comfortable there for nights. We worked through the regression within two weeks. Don’t worry! Even if you need to feed a little bit during the night this regression won’t last forever.

  • I sleeptrained my son during the 4 month sleep regression and it went great. It’s a very common time to sleep train and isn’t too young! I worked with a sleep consultant who reassured me of this.
