My newborn has clogged tear ducts. She is now 4 weeks old and has had them since week 1. I have used warm compress and the gentle finger massage technique. Any other suggestions or moms that have had this?
This is normal per our pediatrician. They will eventually outgrow it. We have this with our LO as well and his pediatrician said to make sure to keep the eye clean (using a warm wash cloth) and as long as it's not red or irritated looking (just kinda goopy looking) then it's okay. Always a good idea to double check with your pediatrician though if concerned.
I got smooth, egg-sized rock from my garden and boiled it to heat it up twice a day. Then I wrapped it in a wet, warm washcloth and held it against the corner of his eye for 15 minutes or so. Until it cooled off. It held heat really well… The bigger the rock, the longer it’ll hold heat. Boiling 5-8 minutes resulted in 15-20 minutes of heat. I did this twice a day and his tear duct was cleared within a few weeks.
My baby has this in one eye. To be honest, I didn't do much, besides wipe away the goop with a wet cotton ball, and it resolved itself after a month or so. I've also heard you can put a couple drops of breast milk in the eye. I tried this for a few days, but my aim is bad haha
I got some normal saline eye drops from the pharmacy. I would wipe the goop off his eye, and would use those to rinse his eye. Then I would use my pinky finger and roll from the inside half of his eye to the tear duct. You want to use gentle pressure. That kind of forced the saline into the duct to help clear it out. Took about 2-3 days and got rid of it
Completely normal. The advice above is accurate. Clean the eye with warm water and cotton ball two times a day or as needed. You'll see it goop after naps. It goes away on its own. Another tip is the ensure the nostrils are clear of mucus. If the nose is blocked the duct cannot drain.
