Re: Weekly randoms 11/7

  • Okay I'm like %99.999999 sure that I'm feeling baby kicks, it happened yesterday and I was like oh surely not, but twice today, when I've laid down or are just spending quiet time, I feel them and they're absolutely unmistakable. They're not muscle spasms and it's low enough that I know it's my uterus and not some hip ligament ticking or something else odd. But wow. I really didn't expect to feel movement before 11/12 weeks. If I didn't see how huge of a range of motion baby had during my ultrasound a few days ago I'd be gaslighting myself out of being sure but I'm nearly positive it's flutters. The way my uterus is positioned plus where the baby is must be an extremely lucky combo this time.
  • Just before the pandemic we moved from a 2 bedroom house to a 5 bedroom house, and even though there’s more space here my girls (4, and 6) still share a room and don’t want to stop

  • @potato3000 a sound machine should make a huge difference! Doesn’t have to be a fancy one either, cheap ones work great. We love them.

Also, our two boys share a room and for the first few months-year we will have baby with us. Depends on when we can upgrade to a 3-4 bedroom house, but we may end up with 3 together in the room. They’ll be fiiine. 😂 My aunt passed down full size bunk beds, which I had never seen before. They’re massive. I kinda feel like we can fit unlimited children now as far as beds go. Not with actual space though!
  • @kalesix3 That’s amazing!!! I cannot wait. What an amazing sensation to feel your baby when you’ve had anxiety about baby being okay. I am so happy for you. 🎉🎉
  • @annemarie96 unlimited children 😂 I have seen bunkbeds where the lower bed was full and upper was twin, but never both full sized! I bet they are absolutely massive. Our plan is to move DS2 and DS1 in together after the new year to make space for baby.
  • @annemarie96 I hope it happens soon for you too 🤞🏻 those bunk beds sound truly amazing, it's got to be such a good feeling to know you have so much space bed wise for your kiddos! Like one less thing to figure out 🙌🏻
  • @kalesix3 we also need to move DS2 out of our bed before baby comes... since we'll be moving him into a room with his brother, we're hoping he'll do okay knowing he's not alone. Our current bedtime routine the kids get ready for bed at the same time, DS1 lays down in his room, and DH gets DS2 to sleep. We're thinking the only change will be instead of laying DS2 down in our bed once he's asleep, we'll lay him down in the boys room. He sleeps through the night most of the time, but he's definitely used to a warm body next to him. We plan to make the switch in January to make sure he has plenty of time to adjust before baby comes and we have no choice.

Also yaaaaaay baby kicks! Go baby go! I can't wait to feel them. Really hoping I'll be able to soon, but feel confident I will before the end of the year.
  • @thescarletmom I think it's always easier to transition a toddler to a room with another sibling purely for the companionship aspect like you said, I know I would feel ten times better about my toddler if he had a sibling to room with.
Reading your comment reminded me I've never thought about bedtime routines with multiple children 🤯
Kind of admiring the families who do a massive floor bed for everyone though I don't think I'm brave enough to do it lol.
Hopefully it goes really smoothly for your family with the transition and your boys really love the new arrangement!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed baby kicks are right around the corner with you being 9 weeks already and you've felt early flutters before 🤞🏻 🤞🏻
  • @kalesix3 I think we have a similar sleep approach, so I can tell you in my experience it's less terrifying than you might think! Especially in the newborn days when the baby is up and down every few hours all day. DS1 had a stable bedtime every night and DS2 just went to bed with us. When he got a little older and more of a loose routine, we would get DS1 down and then I would nurse DS2 to sleep. We were able to start conjoining the bedtime routine around 1.5 I think. And before that, we did some parts together, and some parts were a divide and conquer. DS1 didnt move to his own room until i think he was 4? He moved into his own bed, in our room, around 2.5-3 but I was very nervous about him being alone! It didn't take him too long to adjust, we just made sure to take it slow and let him acclimate at each stage. You've got this!
  • @kalesix3 gahhhhhh so exciting!!!  I swear I keep feeling something right where I found the heartbeat that one time (haven't been able to find it since). I am just barely 10 weeks soooooooooo I don't know.  But I like it haha.

  • @kalesix3 @thescarletmom regarding sleep - we were super strict with my son in his own bed until he hit about 2.  Now, he will sleep in his own bed fine on school nights but we always go in and get him and bring him in our bed while he is sleeping (some kind of weirdos, right?!) and on non-school nights he can just stay up and starts in our room. He is six.  We LOVE having him in bed with us. Honestly, my hope is that we can take the same route with this baby and keep them in their room until 2ish (aside form the first few weeks of course) Backwards, I know. And by the time baby wants to sleep with us, DS won't want to anymore.  We will see haha.

  • My DH says i have to share this story here because only other moms could "appreciate" this.

I don't know if anybody here has ever tried Zevia, the zero sugar zero caffeine "soda". Dr. Pepper is my biggest vice in life and has been forever (I've had migraines since I was a very little kid, and since I couldn't take much medication-wise for them, my mom would just tell me to drink a soda for the caffeine, since it's the active ingredient in most OTC migraine meds) and a few months back I tried the Dr. Zevia one to see if it could be a good swap for me to try and break the habit. Well it was the nastiest thing I've ever had in my life, literally so gross. Then my husband showed me this tiktok video yesterday night that was a guy doing a blind taste test to see if he could identify the true Dr. Pepper out of 5 sodas, one being the Zevia one. When he drank it, I immediately had flashbacks of the taste of it and had to RUN to the bathroom to puke. I get to the toilet, throw open the lid, vomit profusely. The idea that remembering the taste of something i had two sips of tops, moooonths ago, made me actually vomit... makes me want to laugh until I cry. Then when I'm done, I lift my head up and see for the first time that my 6 year old had smeared poop all over the underside of the toilet seat lid when he went to the bathroom before bed (wtf? how? why?) Proceed to vomit more. Y'all. This is the kind of stuff they don't tell you about when you have kids
  • @thescarletmom when I tell you the irrational fear I have of the same situation happening to me from remembering a taste to a nasty toilet where I've just thrown up, and all of it just happened to you 😭😭 ewwwwww I'm horrified for you.
Stevia is gross when I'm not pregnant but I truly get the absolute worst aversion to it and it makes my tongue start feeling weird, I can't handle it. I wish I could becausr the idea of a sugar free bubbly ginger drink sounds so good but nope. I hope your DH was properly sorry for what he started with a darn TikTok 😂
It helps to hear the transition went so well for you, I'll be first to admit my non readiness is just anxiety 😭

@ReadyForaB you sound like you have the most beautiful secure attachment with your son, I don't think you're crazy, I miss my son so much when he goes to bed, sometimes I just go in and stare at him even though I'm going to go to bed in the same bed and be kicked and woken up all night haha, they grow up so fast and it's a beautiful thing to see them turn into secure independent teens and adults but knowing how fast it goes and how it can all be taken away in an instant has me appreciating being needed even more.
I'm only 10.5 weeks so it's definitely possible you're feeling flutters too and especially because it's in the same spot as you found the heartbeat. This is so exciting, I hope the next few days you get unmistakable proof and hello era of baby flutters, I love the quickening stage so much, it truly never gets less exciting.
  • @thescarletmom omg I saw that one too! His face was horrified when he drank the zevia! I can only imagine the sympathy nausea you had
  • @ReadyForaB I can't tell you how many times I've woken up in the middle of the night wanting to go get DS1 and bring him into bed with us haha. I've always been a co-sleeper from birth because my anxiety is so high if my baby isn't in the same room as me and/or DH. I just can't sleep. But it sounds so sweet and I bet your DS feels so safe when he's snuggled up with mom and dad ❤️ and you're right, one day he won't want the snuggles as much! Might as well get them now if you want them!

@kalesix3 right! Sugar free, no caffeine, win win! And then it was so god awful I was in shock. I was so mad i paid like $8 for a 6 pack and it was absolutely abhorrent. But we laughed about it for probably 30 minutes afterwards about how insane it was for just the memory of the drink to do something so visceral to me haha.
And I totally get the anxiety! I never know if the big changes are harder on them, me, or me just because I'm afraid it will be harder on them haha. We have the BLF course if you know what that is, and mostly followed their bedtime plan. It only took a few days for him to settle into the routine like we'd been doing it forever!

@cassafrass123 it was literally so funny, until suddenly it wasn't because I had vomit up to here haha. It was both sympathy nausea for him and for my past self 😂 I consider myself a Dr. Pepper connoisseur and so my husband showed it to me just so we could laugh about it and it backfired lol
  • @thescarletmom I do really like Izze drinks. They are fruit juice so not zero calorie but they're also absolutely delicious and not the disgusting monstrosity that is stevia soda 🤢
  • @kalesix3 yes, I've tried izze too! Usually love it but they've been too sweet in a weird way for me while pregnant for some reason? Doesn't make sense because it's not like Dr. Pepper isn't? But I'm hoping that goes away soon! I have this weird thing where I can drink water all day long, just NOT with food. It has to have a flavor for some reason, so that's where my soda vice fans the flames. I was drinking izze to replace times when I otherwise would have had soda, and then I hated it when I was nauseated.
  • @thescarletmom oh nooo I hate when something I know is perfectly delicious all of a sudden I can't stand it. So annoying! Does drinking pregnancy tea chilled with honey work for you during meals? I haven't had a water aversion but iced herbal tea with or without honey in it really hits the spot for me. I'm not a soda drinker though, I never have been, so I'm not sure that tea would really be a workable substitute, it might be kind of laughable haha. Like your taste buds would be... What is this crap? Give us Dr pepper or nothing! 😂
  • So I've co slept with both my girls since the day they were born. We have one big family bed (king size plus twin bed pushed together) and it works for us. However, transitioning my 18mo old away from me in the twin into the 'big bed' with her sister and (sometimes) dad , feels like it's going to be so hard. We're thinking of trying to transition both girls to their own room by the time this little one arrives...but that's an even bigger feat. I just keep telling myself that it will all fall into place 😌
  • @kalesix3 lol yes exactly they're not easily tricked. My husband is also just not a soda guy, doesn't have any issues with simply never drinking it and it's so irritating haha. Thankfully our kids have basically 0% interest in soda. Veeerry occasionally DS1 will ask for sips or if we go to one specific local pizza buffet he'll ask if he can have one fountain soda and I'm fine with that now that he's 5+ and because he drinks almost exclusively water otherwise. DS2 went through a phase where if I had like a fast food cup or something and I set it down somewhere he would race in from who knows where to drink from it simply because he wanted to chew on the straw haha. I know my mom was trying her best, but the caffeine addiction rooted in my childhood really has been tough to break and I'm glad my husband and kids won't have to deal with it.

@sunny_native14 I found DS1 took the transition so much better than I expected! I think as long as you are prepared for it to not be an overnight success, you'll do just fine!
  • @thescarletmom I'm sure you've tried sparkling water, but it's my jam. I love a la Croix, bubbly, or perrier.  I find they have the most flavor. I'm also not a soda person but have to have a seltzer water with my meals for "flavor"!
  • @hitcj4687 I've tried bubbly and la Croix! Not a fan of seltzer I think. But some of the hint water flavors are okay! I had to pause my trial and erroring when I got pregnant because the risk of vomiting if I tried something I didn't like was too high, but I'll find something someday!
  • @thescarletmom I’ve been doing bubly with a packet of true orange or true lime in it and it’s so much better!

Super random but I’ve had like a burst of energy this afternoon and I am not mad at it. I started doing *laundry* 🫢
  • @thescarletmom oh that's heartbreaking that it started in childhood like that, I'm sorry. I'm sure in time something will click and you'll find a substitute 🙌🏻

@francesgs don't you just love those? I'm ready to get more energy back 😴
  • @francesgs oooh that drink sounds really good! I’ve been craving citrus like wild
  • @francesgs ooo I had never considered mixing it with something more flavored! I might have to try that!

@kalesix3 Honestly it'll probably be izze, just after I'm not pregnant haha. I don't feel strongly about getting completely rid of it from my diet, I just hate that if I go a day or two without it I get headaches and don't feel good :/ would rather be able to enjoy it just a few times a week with dinner or lunch or something. Thankfully I'm at peace with the fact that my mom didn't know what better to do for my migraines when i was too young for any medications, and we couldn't afford a specialist or the imaging they wanted to do.
  • @cassafrass123 yes same!!! I buy the orange bubly to be exact and put the true orange in it and it’s so good! I’ve been loving lemon yogurt also.. I want all the citrus! Haha

    @thescarletmom Definitely try!

@kalesix3 Yes! I’ve been so exhausted lately and it’s been bringing me down. I needed this little burst but now I’m starting to crash.. I will def be sleeping good tonight haha.
