Induction

Hi, I am 38 weeks pregnant and yesterday my OB told me that they want to induce me this weekend because the weight of my baby is low for his gestational age (in the 5th percentile). This is my first pregnancy and I must admit that I a bit nervous about the induction.  I was wondering if anyone here has the same issue as me or have been induced or is being told that they will be induced?
Thanks 🙏

Re: Induction

  • I'm not a doctor or anything, and it's totally your personal choice! But 38 weeks seems early unless your baby isn't growing at all, something wrong with the placenta kinda thing. I'd think giving the baby longer to "cook" would be best but please do your own research! You know your situation best.

Hey! With my first I was induced between 39 and 40 weeks. As of 37 weeks your baby is considered full term so it is safe for baby to come at any time now.

Induction was actually kinda of nice… took the stress away from the unknown. Just do some research on medications and procedures if you want to feel most comfortable going into it!

Basically I got there at 8am. Couldn’t eat anything from the moment they gave me pitocin. They monitored me frequently and once i got to a certain dilation they asked if I wanted an epidural. I did so I got my epidural and they just monitored the contractions on a machine and checked my ceviche every so often. They broke my water for me. I had a catheter bc of the epidural. They don’t check for dilation as frequently as you’d think (it’s crazy!) but as soon as you feel like you need to poop it means it’s time to push.

Being induced intensifies any pain you’d feel from labor so the epidural was nice. I did have an episiotomy too but it was healed nicely and I was ok!

If the doc is saying your baby isn’t growing it’s probably safe to believe them.
