Rant: My husband just lost his job and they called to inform him while we were babymooning.
Rave: Our baby shower is this Sunday and I’m excited to see friends and family to celebrate baby girl! This has been a long time coming for us, as she is our rainbow after three losses. 🌈

Questions:
What is everyone using bag-wise to take to the hospital? I tend to be an over/packer. 😆

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten?
I have NO idea why this bothers me, because I know the intentions are good, but I feel slightly irritated when people ask how I’m feeling. Because I feel like I can’t tell them the truth. 😂

@katiekins029 How stressful that they told your husband about his job on your baby moon! Hopefully everything works out.

Also, I completely agree about the how are you feeling question! I’ve started saying “I’m doing the best I can” instead of just saying “ok”, but I always hesitate before answering because I’m weighing if it’s the right situation to be brutally honest.

I'm getting a weekender bag and packing within the next two weeks. @katiekins029 I packed in my overly large diaper bag last time which worked but it wasn't very structured. I'm an overpacker as well but I'm trying not to this time.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Huge and sore. I've gained 30 pounds and my hips are freaking killing me. 

𝗥ants/Raves: 
Raves: My neighbor is starting on the baby's room tomorrow!!! He said it will Be done within a week and the cost was half of what I was planning! Pretty sure he gave me a neighbors deal. 
Rant: The dinosaur wall mural came and the colors were absolutely wrong so now I have to deal with that. If they can't give me exactly what I want (which is what was pictured. They messed up) then I am returning it and I'm back to square one.

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten?
Since it's our fourth baby it's "Was it planned???" It's really frustrating because I had four confirmed miscarriages and a fifth one suspected. It was a traumatic time in our lives and it hurts for people to be so dismissive and make assumptions. 
The other is when people comment that I must be about to pop. It's been going on for months and I know I'm huge but it cuts me deep.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Tired and physically exhausted from our trip because we did so much walking and bending and lifting. It was great though, and I'm so relieved we made it through the flights and visit with no preterm labour (I was pretty anxious about potentially getting stuck out there with a NICU baby)

𝗥ants/Raves: Rant: I haaaate when people cut me off when I have DS in the stroller. So many people were doing that at airports and while we were away. Drives me up the wall because if I bump into them suddenly I'm the jerk not paying attention. Rave: DS did SO well on the return flight this morning!!! He fell asleep before takeoff and dlept through until the descent when he took a bottle like a champ. He loved watching out the window and giggled during landing. It was great!

Questions: TTM+, how did you introduce LO to your older kiddos?

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten? I got this more with DS because I was a FTM, but so many people, especially older matriarchs, would say things like "Don't be a martyr, just take the drugs", "there's no shame in an epidural", or they'd be up in arms about my wanting a birth centre delivery instead of a hospital.

@krthouse with ours we usually do a little baby gift for the older siblings when they come and meet the new baby. Nothing big or extravagant just a thoughtful little gift. We just make sure to do it slowly and never try to force interactions. Right now the kids all have their assigned jobs for when the baby is born so they feel included and helpful. I let them pick their own "jobs" and things they can do to help with the baby.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Friday I have a growth scan & biophysical profile...I'm nervous for the first time in a while.  If all goes well it *should* be my last specialty scan

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Physically - acid reflux galore!  I guess baby has moved up/uterus has expanded a lot in the past weeks.  Mentally - like I have so much to do!

𝗥ants/Raves: Rant - My husband doesn't seem to feel the same urgency to get things done as I do and I'm trying to be patient, but it's not my strongest quality pregnant or not pregnant  Rave - My mom and sister were able to visit this past weekend which is logistically hard for them.  My mom has been anxious to be part of the pregnancy and it was nice to have her involved and present even if she drives me crazy most of the time.

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten? There's a few.  1- We don't know the gender and this seems to really irritate people for some reason.  I'm not sure why they care, but people both close and not close to us are obsessed with us finding out.  They assume we're doing it as some sort of statement, but really we just like the idea of a surprise.  It also leads to all sorts of ridiculous sex/gender conversations. 2- I hate being asked if/when we're having more.  We have been dealing with infertility for six years and we haven't shared that with many people for a reason. Let me just have this baby safely please!  3- Breastfeeding.  I'm already tired of people's feeding opinions that are offered without me asking for them.  (Wow, I guess I have a lot of pet peeves because I'm even leaving some off of this list LOL)

@katiekins029 I'm so sorry about your husband's job! Not that there's ever a good time to find that out but that timing was particularly awful.
@krthouse when we had DD2 we had DD1 come to the hospital to meet her and she brought the baby a present and the baby "got" her a present also. We made sure to take lots of pictures of the two of them together and let her hold the baby a lot so it felt like it wasn't all about the baby.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Just big and uncomfortable. My job can be pretty physically demanding and being on my feet for 12 hours is getting harder. My supervisor joked the other day that she's going to put me into preterm labor by working me so hard and I was like yeahhh that's kind of a real fear of mine.

𝗥ants/Raves: DH went back to work this week (teacher) which is a bummer because it's been so nice having him home. Also, we found out yesterday that my mom has covid and she is our only option for childcare so now we have no idea what we're going to do this week. I may end up having to call out of work tomorrow night because I'm working tonight and I'll be home with the kids by myself all day tomorrow and can't see myself getting enough sleep to go back for another 12 hour night shift. Also, we went out to dinner with my mom Sunday night so I'm just praying none of us get sick. DD1 starts school on Monday and having covid during pregnancy once was bad enough for me.

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten? Like @sandy5693, I've got a bunch lol. 1. People asking if I'm hoping it's a boy this time since we have two girls. After years of IF, IVF, and a loss last year, all I'm hoping for is a healthy full term baby. I could care less about what it has between its legs. 2. Was this planned? Um, yes, we had to do IVF and considering most people know about our struggles to have DD2 and doing IVF to conceive her this question is particularly annoying. 3. Are we done after this one? Nobody's business but ours and also, can we have this baby safely first??

@sandy5693 We dealt with that so much too when we has DS! We wanted our first to be a surprise and it was sometimes downright toxic what people would say! I was so glad to have him be a surprise.

@katiekins029 I'm also a fan of a weekend bag and a diaper bag. Our diaper bag can be worn as a backpack which turned out to be super convenient. All of baby's things went in there, all of mine and DH's in the weekend bag. You genuinely don't need much.

Rant: I have developed carpal tunnel in both my wrists, so working all day on a computer is a struggle 

Raves: I think I have as much ready for the boys’ arrival as I can, I even have the car seat bases installed. The goal is for them to be delivered at 36 weeks, but my MFM said anytime I go in for a ultrasound could result in me delivering if there are any growth issues 😅

Questions: if anyone previously had a c section, how long were you in the hospital for?

I really didn’t get many comments on my pregnancy from strangers until like this past week. Now every time I leave the house, I get so many comments about any day now or walk that baby out.

With my first C section I kind of panicked and stayed as long as they let me. With the next two I was out the door as soon as I could get out of there. I think I was there for two days.

𝗨𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Friday MFM US. I’m hoping we get our C-section scheduled too during that appointment, but we’ll see.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: Unable to do anything. I’m doing my best, but my belly is so heavy and my body just can’t handle basic movement anymore.

𝗥ants/Raves: Rant: I just want to sleep longer than 2.5 hours before needing to adjust/pee.  

Rave: We had help moving things into our newly finished basement this past weekend and now we’re going to have help painting some rooms this week/weekend. I’m really lucky to have the help!

GTKY: What's your biggest pet peeve pregnancy-related question or comment you’ve gotten? We went to my husband’s family reunion a couple weeks ago. People were telling me how surprised they were by how well I was moving around. I also get the comment that I look great. It’s just that I’m hiding how I’m actually doing. Nobody at the reunion saw me break down half way through because I just couldn’t handle the moving around and consistently latched on to by my kids.

@jen_third22 I'm SO with you with wanting longer periods of sleep without pee breaks or needing to reposition for comfort. I know it's helpful for my brain handling newborn wakeups later but it's hard not to envy DH sleeping peacefully through

@sandy5693 and @shortstack930, you’ve both reminded me of more questions/comments that irk me! 😆 I genuinely don’t understand others’ curiosity as to whether I’ll be breastfeeding, as if it’s any of their business. Since we’ve had three losses prior to this, I also don’t appreciate people asking or commenting about our “next one.” It seems like an awfully large (and anxiety-provoking) assumption to make, and I just want to get this baby girl delivered safely before ever thinking about a second baby.

I appreciate all of your thoughts on the hospital bag! Do you bring your own pillow/blanket and towels? I’ve heard of some doing this but not sure if it’s worth it.

No to towels/blankets but yes to pillow. You can bring your own if you want though. 

I don't know why people are so obsessed with how a baby gets fed. I had to unfollow someone on Instagram because she was formula shaming while simultaneously telling people if they are formula feeding during a shortage then they had better use these homemade formula recipes. 😬 
With my first I found it weird how often people tried to be present while I was breastfeeding. I'm a very private person and it was super uncomfortable having to repeatedly ask people to not follow me (in laws mostly including my father in law) or interrupt while I'm nursing. I'm 100% on board with fed is best and I sincerely hope this formula shortage ends.

I have another pet peeve:
So my four year old has long absolutely gorgeous curly strawberry blond hair. I haven't cut it so it's very long. I keep getting asked if I'm having another beautiful girl or if I was hoping I am finally having a boy. Um...that's my son right there...dressed in the superhero clothes and the cape. I'm torn between being happy no one bats an eye at what they assume is a little girl dressed like a little boy or mad that everyone assumes the kids with long curly hair is a girl.

To add on to the gender pet peeves, when I had my first, every stranger assumed she was a boy as a baby. I’m guessing it’s because we didn’t dress her in pink and ruffles all the time and the onesies were more gender neutral or could possibly have come from the “boy” section. I gave up correcting people, but babies just look like babies and I shouldn’t have to put a bow in my kids hair for them to assume it’s not a boy.

That happened with my oldest! I love the color blue. I bought blue clothes, room was blue, everything I could get blue was blue. I have always viewed blue as more of a gender neutral color because I love and wear it so much. Like my entire house is painted blue except one room...and it's purple. Next year the outside of the house will be navy and white and I'm freaking psyched. I just hate that there is just some assumption that blue automatically means penis. Leave my color alone. Colors are for everyone.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by the gender comments.  People keep asking "but how will you know what clothes to buy?!"  It's so bizarre to me.

Also, people who are pressuring us to tell us the names we have picked out.  That's not as big of a pet peeve, but it's strange how aggressive both family and strangers can be right now lol

I love dressing my son in a range of patterns or colour combos. People often assume he's a girl if I have him in floral, yellow or pink, pastel. What I find hilarious is when they get overtly apologetic when I say he's a boy. Babies are babies, kids are kids. It just does not matter. It's important to me to put him in a variety of colours and patterns so that when he wants to decide his own favourites he's been exposed to lots of options, not just the navy/grey/black/red/olive green that has been designated for things branded as boys clothing.

My oldest girl wears a lot of spider themed clothes and that is offensive to most. She has a shirt with a tarantula and Australian red back spider and people don't like it. I let all of my kids pick their own clothes as long as they fit. My son often wears "battle kilts" that his sister puts on him.
