Re: Weekly check in 6/20

  • @sparklingdiamond good luck with Invisalign! My process was two days shy of one year. Hard but totally worth it!

  • I need to catch up! My PGAL anxiety was not really letting me post. Just saw baby girl looking great on u/s though.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/22/23 9w3d

Baby is the size of a(n): green olive

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

Upcoming Appointments: Idk, I’m waiting to talk to my OB right now. Probably around 12w.

How are you feeling?: I’ve been having some anxiety but everything is fine really.

Rants/Raves: Trying to get DS his first COVID vaccine is a bit annoying. He’s not quite three and even though a few places near us have a supply of under 5 vaccines they won’t give shots to kids under 3. I’m planning to drive about an hour on Friday with him to a place that will do it.

    Questions:

GTKY: What is the the strangest piece of pregnancy/ parenting advice you’ve gotten so far? Idk, strange or just irresponsible but my step mother in law recommended giving infants a little whiskey and starting solid food at like 8 weeks.

  • @nuggetsmama21 I haven’t lost any weight but also haven’t gained any. I think eating healthier, not drinking etc sometimes will cause people to start losing weight. Just make sure you are eating the calories you need from your doctor. I also heard not to lose more than 5-10% of your body weight but will depend on your situation. Good luck!
  • @L1C4gal Can I ask if a year was what you were originally told would be the timeframe?  I swear they said 18 months, but I'm wearing each one for 10 days and when I add all that time together it is nowhere near 18 months....I was going to ask about it at my next appt, but that's not for a couple of weeks.
  • @sparklingdiamond I seem to remember them saying 12-15 months, but I’m not 100% sure on that. I did the math and thought the same thing, but in my case (maybe in all cases?), I got all the way through the first box (mine was about 25 trays), then had an in-person visit where they assessed progress and finalized the rest of the prescription from there on out—which was 10 more trays (I decided to go 7 days/tray at that point to speed things up). So, you’ll probably get more trays. The most annoying part was waiting for the second set of 10, because it took like 8 weeks—which is a long wait, and I also had to make a few trays stretch that whole time (gross). But still, with the switch to 7 days at the end, it ended up being on the low range of what they quoted me in terms of time. Hope this novel helps!
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: Jan. 5/ 12 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): Hacky Sack

Upcoming Appointments: Friday for US, 7/8 for OB

How are you feeling?: Its a little nerve wrecking that my symptoms are fading but supposedly it's normal for 12 weeks. Still is making me nervous.

Rants/Raves: I was a white water raft guide and took my camp kids on the same river yesterday. With a decent water level, I rode with a senior guide and had a blast. Made my heart so happy to share this experience with my youth and see old friends. But when I shared this with another friend, she freaked me out by saying the baby could have detached. So then I got worried. I'm pretty sure I'm fine but she planted a tiny seed of doubt. Ugh.

GTKY: That our cuddle bug of a dog may attack the baby. 🙄
  • @nuggetsmomma21 With my last two I lost weight, I had hyperthyroidism with the one and didn't gain until the third trimester. The other one I started gaining halfway though the second trimester.
  • @greenbean88 I’m sorry your friend said that. It sounds like you had an uneventful trip down the river. I’m just a regular person who has been rafting but even class IV rapids wouldn’t be significantly bumpier than potholes or speed bumps in a car. I don’t think detachment could possibly happen if you didn’t even fall out of the boat. That said generally whitewater rafting is not considered a safe activity for pregnant people because of the risk of falling on rocks  etc. I wouldn’t worry at all about your trip but probably would avoid doing it again while pregnant (but that’s me).
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/19 / 10 week + 1 day

Baby is the size of a(n): strawberry

Team blue/pink/green:  will find out in a few weeks

Upcoming Appointments: first appt was today, heard baby’s heartbeat, will do some genetic testing next appt 7/6 and then have a dating ultrasound on 7/18

How are you feeling?: decent, bouts of nausea if I wait too long to eat between meals but really can’t complain

Rants/Raves:  it was so reassuring to hear the hb today, she found it immediately

Questions:  this is our third and I’m a little bit stressing about the bedroom situation. DS and DD currently have their own rooms, and we don’t have a spare so I’m trying to figure out where the baby will go. We value sleep routines sooo much so I don’t want to really upset either kids sleep with a new baby. Anyone else facing this, what are you going to do?

GTKY: What is the the strangest piece of pregnancy/ parenting advice you’ve gotten so far?  I don’t think I’ve gotten any weird advice lately.

  • Due 1/7, 12 weeks today

Baby is the size of a Swedish fish

Team TBD, but I'm convinced it's a boy based on cravings

Upcoming appts: Thursday, no idea what will be done at the appointment. I usually just show up and do what they tell me.

How I'm feeling: okay, maybe a little less tired, but I've been a little more hormonal the last few days. No idea why, but I just want to cry multiple times a day for no reason.  I'm also a little more nausaus, but I haven't been eating well this week as we've been traveling.

Rants/raves: my doctor wants me to do a diabetes/blood sugar test since I had gestational with my daughter, but eating sugar makes me crazy nausaus, so I'm going to fight the doctor on it.  I'd much rather just do finger pricks 4 times a day starting now.

Questions: anyone else get suboptimal news on genetic tests to see if you're a carrier for anything? We're waiting for my husband to be tested to see if we actually have a potential problem, but I'm a little nervous and surprised since to my knowledge this disease doesn't run in the family (though apparently it does).

GTKY: weirdest advise I got with my daughter was to not buy baby nail clippers and just bite her nails when they got too long.  We bought the nail clippers.
  • @42lemons I’m going to do the same with finger sticks. I have PCOS and I always fail the test, but my BS is fine when I test. I would rather just test 4x/day every day
  • I'm 11 weeks and 3 days. I'm finally feeling less nauseated but still tired. I have a 2 half year old girl that keeps me busy and I work part time. I have a Doppler and I found the heartbeat.
  • @footdrbritt I also have PCOS and got away without getting GD last pregnancy but I was able to eat super healthy and exercise (this one is making me eat only carbs and movement makes me nauseas lmao) but I am in a low dose of metformin from my fertility treatments and will be staying in it through my whole pregnancy now so hopefully it’ll help combat it!
