Re: Baby Movement

@kat_vegan87 I have an anterior placenta too - and this baby has been crazy with kicks and movement when I lay down to sleep for the last 3.5 weeks or so. (22+6 today) I didn't think anything of it just that it was our normal until a couple nights ago when he hasn't been active during the day not super unusual but then NOTHING at night. I tried all the things drs and people and Google say to get baby moving and nothing at all. Luckily we have an at home Doppler so DH got that out and we spent a very anxious 5 minutes looking for the heartbeat. It was in normal range but super faint. I called my Dr office went in yesterday, they checked everything and were really nice but basically said sometimes you won't feel him because he's moving in a way the anterior placenta is blocking. My Dr also pushed pretty hard around baby (like on the sides of my stomach, then top and bottom of where he would be) and asked if I could feel him reacting. I did, and she said I could always try that to reassure myself. It was a lot harder than I would have done but she said that amount of pressure is fine. Last night he was back to his regular kicking a bunch and making me need to pee.

So summary - sorry it sucks, it's probably nothing to worry about. But don't be afraid to go for an extra appointment, that's why OBGYN offices are there - to help and make sure babies and moms are doing okay.

@kat_vegan87 are you vaccinated? I think I saw that study about the placenta and every mother was unvaccinated

Edit to add - I also think everything is fine especially if you are feeling baby a lot now
  • @bows22 - I’m not vaccinated, I was waiting for them to be fully approved and then I got pregnant and my midwife said she’d be nervous about getting vaccinated while pregnant so I figured I’d just wait it out.

@rcgw - that makes me feel so much better and way less crazy! Where did you get a Doppler? I have no clue where mine is that I used for my son and I can’t find one on Amazon.
  • How do hiccups feel differently than kicks/movement?
  • @mcclanna more like a shuddering.

@kat_vegan87 My sister gave it to me, she got it off Amazon. Check Amazon again, use the full phrase "Fetal Doppler baby heart monitor for pregnancy" and there's bunches of options.

Or get a generous sister who knows what anxiety feels like???
  • @kat_vegan87 I'm surprised your midwife cautioned you against getting vaccinated while pregnant. Mine strongly encouraged it, as did my family doctor, as it boosts the odds of baby having some protection as well. I'm hoping to be able to get my booster this summer or in September for that reason.
  • @mcclanna I find hiccups are much more rhythmically consistent than kicks. It becomes a bit easier to distinguish them as baby gets bigger. DS used to get them TONS when I was in third trimester with him.
  • My doctor advised against it. I don't form immunities to the vaccines that everyone normally gets and I just get unbelievably sick. I've had 10 MMRs in 9 years and nothing. That applies to virtually every other vaccine for me. My husband got it. I didn't.  The flu shot makes me sick for 8 weeks. (I still got it four times)  so I passed on Covid with the encouragement of multiple doctors.
  • 27+2 and... most days, June Elizabeth has parties/monster truck rallies/Shaolin Monk Practice/who all knows every three-four hours regardless of day or night.

Anterior placenta, FTM, genuinely surprised that I've basically felt her all times of day and night since week... 21? 22? She's getting so strong, too!
  • FTM with an anterior placenta, 30+3 today.

@rcgw the same thing just happened to me this past week. Baby had had a pattern of being super active the first half of the week and calming down a bit the second half. I’ve always been able to feel her a bit throughout the day but mostly at night. This past week Thursday-Saturday was radio silence. I did all the thing they tell you to get baby moving and it would take a few minutes if really focusing and rubbing/pressing on my belly to get any kind of reaction. Doctor was not happy this morning that I hadn’t called immediately. She started up her normal party on Sunday and again today so I’m reassured a bit but can’t help but feel like I’m already messing up as a parent 😭 thankfully I have an appointment tomorrow so I can grill the doctor on what is actually normal with an anterior and when to be concerned, because clearly I was slacking this time.

@robbinsegg317 Oh my gosh no!!!! You're winning as a parent! You did all you needed to do and she's okay - that's a MAJOR WIN! Plus, it seems like a lot of guess and check with anterior placenta and movement. You're doing incredible. But I'm so so sorry you had to deal with the exact awfulness. ❤️❤️❤️
  • @rcgw had my appointment today and doc had me go for a biophysical profile. Baby scored 8/8 and everything looked great! 85th percentile estimating 4lbs 3oz already 😅 Doc is pretty sure it’s just the anterior placenta making it hard to feel her move but he’s having me come in weekly now to monitor more closely. Makes me feel sooo much better that he’s taking this as seriously as I am and I’ll get more frequent updates now. Definitely gonna be more focused when I do kick counts though, since movements are more subtle some days now apparently. This little one is already keeping me on my toes!
