Glad the swelling is not a concern @laj0217!!

@foreveronyourside that was so nice of her!!!

@pangolindrome you are going to love your anatomy scan! Very excited for you and this milestone!

@jhysmath woohoo for using sick time for fun stuff! Not that waxing is fun, but better than unpaid time off or using weekend time for it!

@laj0217 glad it's not something bigger underlying with your feet.

I lost 1 pound at my last appt and I'm thinking it'll be a non-issue at our next appt. I've been able to drink iced coffees on occasion now, and I definitely ate the chimichangas and pizza rolls that weren't on my shopping list but sounded so good when I went through the frozen aisle for mixed vegetables. If I'm still not gaining sufficiently, I'm going to have to ask for some guidance. I don't know how to gain baby weight without it being unhealthy... The only idea I have is to eat more veggies? But I already eat every time I'm hungry.

@leannechristina Thank you. It is keeping me going through this week.
My suggestion for adding healthy calories would be nut butters, nuts in general, fruit smoothies (with added oats) and other natural, higher-calorie foods. If you like yogurt, then Greek and Turkish (full-fat) yogurts are a good go-to and make for a delicious addition to a smoothie as well, or you put some diced fruits on top and also top with some of your favorite nuts and you've got a higher-calorie, natural, nutritious snack. Vegetables are pretty low on calories, so adding more will fill you up without necessarily adding healthy calories. You can add some virgin olive oil or avocado oil to a salad, fry/oven cook vegetables in said oil (with some salt and herbs) if it appeals to your mouth, and you can make pasta and add a little bit of oil to it after cooking. Women in particular need a lot more fat in our diet than people like to believe - I can't remember exactly how many grams of fats should be in our diet every day, but I think 600-800 calories per day should be from healthy sources of fat. If you like cooked salmon, that is also a good option.

Flavorless protein powder can also be mixed into yogurts for extra calories and nutrients without adding a lot of extra bulk.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

@pangolindrom those are all great ideas! I didn't even think about the healthy fats! During this pregnancy, I've been adding peanuts and sliced bananas to my ice cream when we have it.

Bring on the smoothies! Smoothies have been my go-to breakfast, but they've been just fruits and veggies with orange juice all blended together. I will be picking up a little tub of greek yogurt for my smoothies. I love greek yogurt with granola on top, I haven't tried it with nuts yet. I'm going to test whether pecans would be a good candidate. I usually buy 2 or 3 single serve containers for snacks throughout the week.

I'm thinking we have energy balls in our future. I make them with pb, oats, honey, flax seed, chia seed, and mini chocolate chips. Sometimes I add mini m&m's, pumpkin seeds/pepitas, or use sunflower butter or almond butter just to shake it up a little bit.

I'm going to try getting back into the habit of making eggs for breakfast on toast, I just hope my morning appetite likes the idea. Maybe I'll jump on the avocado toast train - haven't tried that yet. I did make guacamole for the first time on Mother's Day and it was delicious. Thinking that will be a new tradition for taco nights.

    Thanks for jogging my brain!

@leannechristina It sounds like you just needed a reminder! I am glad I could help :)
I LOVE pecans. I go for almonds usually because they're cheaper, but I might also need some pecans in my life. I love cereal with some almonds, a diced apple, and milk.

Anyone else sore after the anatomy scan? My girl could not stop moving and the tech had to keep pushing and digging around  :D it didn’t feel so bad at the time but now my belly feels so tender
  • Options
@ashking0922 I haven’t had mine yet this time around but I do remember being sore last time around for a similar reason. Thankfully it didn’t last long though. 🙂
  • Options
@ashking0922 YES! I was sore for a few days afterwards.
  • Options
@ashking0922 yes me too! I felt like I had been prodded so hard all around. I remember thinking it was a surprise that it was hard enough to cause sore muscles after! But now I forgot about that till you mentioned it!

    @ashking0922 I'll report tomorrow after I have mine <3

@ashking0922 haha yes!! Our boy was hiding his foot behind my belly button so the tech was really working that area trying to get an angle that she could work with. Definitely slightly sore the next day!

    So exciting @kboydbowman!

Hope everything is going OK @ashley35209

I had my anatomy scan today and the tech didn't talk to me the entire time, even when I tried to make jokes he just didn't even respond. When I looked at the measurements afterwards the BPD (diameter of the head) is <5th percentile where the rest of the babe is in the 50th percentile. He also spent a very long time looking at the heart & getting me to roll around in different positions to try & see it. Giving me the biggest anxiety that something is wrong 😩

@wiseh ugh I hate that they can’t tell us why they’re doing what they’re doing or what it means 😭 I’m sorry it’s giving you anxiety. I’m in a similar spot. My tech was nice enough but my appointment with the OB is a whole week after the ultrasound so idk what to do with myself. My babe is apparently measuring 9 days early and I know it’s possible it’s just a small baby, but then I still have creeping thoughts of like WHY is this baby small?! When do you get your ultrasound results?

@newbabymama27 I don't see the midwives until the 27th of May and I haven't got any doctor's appointments booked in. I start my new job next week so don't want to be ducking out during the day to go to a doctor's appointment if I can help it. Will aim to go back in next Friday.

Wow you guys. I don’t know how I would manage to go that long without knowing what the results are. My OB appt is about two hours after the scheduled start of my anatomy US today.

@wiseh keeping you in my thoughts and sending lots of love and calm!

@wiseh I would be so panicked. Can you do a video appointment? I would want to hear back asap at that point.

Eta: if there was a major concern, I'm sure they would have pulled you aside and made a doctor or specialist sit down and talk with you. I don't think they would just send you home if it was something bad.

That's what I'm hoping, @jhysmath! I will try to see if they will do a phone consult with me.

@wiseh does your medical system upload their reports? Mine report was uploaded within 24 hours and I could download it. It was a lot of medical gibberish, but it was google-able. Sending you good thoughts…waiting is the worst!

They do but they don't release it to you for 7 days after the report has been written @laj0217

How scary @puppiesandbabies! Glad everything turned out well.

Sometimes knowledge really is both a blessing and a curse.  In the good old (bad old?) days, you didn't get the bad news as early as we do now.  Sometimes I think that would be easier.

@wiseh my tech didn’t talk at all other then to say it was tricky to get positions. So over an hour laying there and I didn’t know what she was doing the whole time. They don’t show us the screen at my place except for a 5 minute see the baby thing. So it was very weird experience to not know what was going on but when I saw my midwives for the results a few days later there was nothing wrong - just the bedside matter of the technician I guess :) Hoping it all comes out normal for you too !
  • Options
@millygolitely That's crazy that you don't get to see the screen the whole time. Is that normal where you are? I can't imagine how awkward that is.
  • Options
@whitta1015 I don’t know what’s normal here haha - I saw someone mention that there was a big screen they could each the whole time and that was when I realized it’s different in some places. There is a baby boom in my area so I was going to a place in a town nearby as it’s the only place I could get an appointment in. It’s a specially ultrasound place for maternity, but yeah they don’t have the extra screen. Maybe they have some reason for that here? We also don’t have a way to get measurements / results ourselves - it goes straight to your primary care person here. Ontario Canada. Anyway I’m just hoping everything continues smoothly and I don’t need to go back for more ultrasounds as it’s quite a trip!
  • Options
@wiseh Thank you =). Fingers crossed that your results are all great also. The waiting is tough.

@millygolitely It was explained to me today that in Nova Scotia, if the ultrasound is being monitored by a doctor (i.e., the doctor will come in following the initial set of images), then the sonographer or whoever it is that is taking the scan can freely talk to you because the doctor will be in to discuss the results with you right away. This is usually in scenarios where people are deemed high risk or a previous ultrasound identified a problem. The regular-risk ultrasounds don't usually have a doctor monitoring the scan. The procedure then is that the sonographer takes the images and s/he is not allowed to say too much to you because a doctor is not present to address concerns. The sonographer then takes the images to a radiologist who then analyzes the results and sends them to your doctor. This is why there is sometimes no extra screen in a regular-risk ultrasound. I know each province runs things a bit differently, but I thought that understand Nova Scotia's procedures might shed some light on your experience.

Just to give you an example of how weirdly different these two different places are: I already knew the sex of baby from the nips. During the regular-risk US, the sonographer asked if I knew the sex and proceeded to tell me she couldn't tell me during the session but that my doctor would be able to confirm the sex at our next appointment. During today's US, the nurse says "Yup, you've definitely got a boy!" I asked how she knew and she showed me on the second screen and paused the image so I could see the anatomy!
  • Options
@millygolitely @puppiesandbabies Strange how different it can be. I'm just regular risk and my anatomy scan was projected on a big screen on the wall so my husband and I could watch the whole time. It was just us and the US tech and she would say things like "There's the heart. All 4 chambers!" or "His little face looks good. No cleft lip." Then the doctor reviews everything afterwards and talks to us. She even paused and took pictures and typed things on them like locating my bladder, etc.

It sounds like the ultrasound “rules” are just pretty different here in Canada overall (Im in Manitoba). My tech told me to lay down for 30 minutes and take a nap if I’d like while she performed the scan on her one screen and took about 60 pictures to send to the radiologist. Then she showed me some of those pictures on her screen and pointed out the heart, spine, toes, etc and let me see my baby wiggle for like 15 seconds and I was on my way. I didn’t even ask my husband to come this time because last time he just sat in the hall waiting on me and only got to come in to see those few pictures at the end (which they put on a CD for $25 for me to take home anyways). Also, no way they’d ever share the results with me lol. Radiologist will draft the report, send it to my OB, and then the OB will tell me about it over a phone all next week. But hey at least the tech told me baby is 9oz and how old it was measuring.
  • Options
@wiseh thanks for thinking of me! Nothing new to report since my cervix won't be measured again until next Thursday. PR interval still looks normal. I'm sorry you don't have answers. Maybe they were just measuring all the heart stuff? Wasn't it you that said you also had some lab findings indicative of an autoimmune disorder? If so, they could have been measuring pr intervals, valves, etc. My heart ultrasounds take about 30 mins. They don't say much but they measure a lot because they have to take 3 readings and average them. I'll keep you in my thoughts! Fingers crossed everything is normal and your tech just had crummy bedside manner.

Today I went for a prenatal massage and it was great, but it made me realize how much pregnancy is affecting my body. I thought my lower back was just sore. But nope- my hips and feet and shoulders and glutes were all affected. Then I had my maternity appointment and mentioned my struggles sleeping because of all the uncomfortable symptoms. No real answers either way though… just a few tips and tricks and a lot of “this is how pregnancy can be”. I left mentally  struggling with balancing the “move your body- you want to strengthen your body because birth is like a marathon” and “I just want to live on this couch because everything hurts”.

Nothing “bad” happened but I just left the appointments feeling crappy. Ohhh hormones.
