The Great Big Giant Question Thread!

Re: The Great Big Giant Question Thread!

  • @starkette @wigglyicecream I ordered two pairs of blanqui leggings on sale when I found out I was pregnant. They are super comfy & supportive, and no baggy crouch, but I'm not sure how long they will last. They seem like they could easily rip (the material is similar to that of thick tights) and the amount of lint on them after a few weeks of wear is unreal. If it weren't for those two issues I'd absolutely buy more.

  • @maggiemadeit well if that’s what it is, I definitely have it. Let me know what the dr says. My guess is “it’s fine, everything is fine”
  • @cas060 Hey! I know it’s a couple days later, but I wanted to give my experience on ritual-I love it and recommend! Garden of life was my first choice until I familiarized myself with Ritual.

When we had just started trying, I got a random bottle of Enfamom and they smelled horrible and it was hard to take them before even getting pregnant. I’ve heard good things about garden of life gummies (although there are always some people who don’t like the flavor.)

As soon as I got Ritual the whole experience of taking prenatals changed! They have a few simple, clean sourced ingredients, and they smell like freshly zested lemons. There is no taste and they are a very swallowable size. I now look forward to taking them “feeding my baby” time and the fresh smell. They even have a slow release inside so that things can properly absorb. It’s hard to get vegan omega oils, but they source it from the plants, which fish eat making them high in omega 3! In other words, they go straight to the source! I also love that they are a subscription that comes in a biodegradable package and recycled bottle. Another pro is that they have POSTNATALS! Which are as important for YOUR body as the prenatals (which are obviously more focused on the baby.)

I hope this provides some helpful insight from my personal experience! :)
  • @maggiemadeit I don’t have lightening crotch yet, and I think you’re naming it correctly. But I did have it sooner and sooo often in my second pregnancy along with spd. I wouldn’t think it would be a problem but definitely give your doctor a call to see what they have to say!

@geshem thank you so much for your suggestions!! No raw honey either? 😬 Jeeze I suck. Lol.
  • @maggiemadeit I totally forgot about lightning crotch! Don't have that yet...
  • @wigglyicecream @paytonpedro @wisewitch222 So I spoke with the nurse at the OB’s office and she was completely unconcerned. Basically told me it was uterus growing pains, and to expect all the pregnancy things to come earlier with a third baby. Definitely rings true so far!
  • @maggiemadeit I’m glad they think it’s nothing! At my last appt my doctor also said to expect not so fun symptoms like aches and pains sooner with a 3rd pregnancy.
  • Question:

I’m sure we’ll have a lengthy discussion on strollers at a later point, probably in a product spotlight. But, long story short, did anyone use a double stroller with a bigger kid? Ds will be 6 and weighs 48lbs and that’s basically the cut off for most doubles. We have a wonderfold wagon that we LOVE but I convinced mh that we should go to Disney and now I need to figure out a stroller situation seeing the wagons aren’t allowed 🙄. I know as an adult that a day in Disney is tiring and that he’s going to need to sit once in a while. Bonus points if it’s on the cheaper side because we already have a $500 double stroller that he’s outgrown.

TLDR; double stroller suggestions for a bigger 48lb kid?? Tried and true?
  • @paytonpedro just rent a stroller at Disney. Lots of 3rd party companies that do it.
  • @meagan-firsttimemommy8-22 , thanks for the follow up! I checked them out... haven't decided yet what do do. Admittedly I've skipped a day or 2 of my vitamins bc I've been so nauseous.. I need to hurry up and decide. Thanks i appreciate it!
  • @paytonpedro I'm in a similar boat. My 3 year old doesn't walk (yet) and she's 33lbs and definitely needs to be in a stroller when out and about. So I'll be looking for one that has a higher weight limit and seats that can go in a million different configurations. I did put some on my amazon list to look at later. Most went up to 55lbs.
  • @anniemarie887 it’s $31 a day to rent a stroller in Disney and that’s $90 I would literally rather eat than throw away on a stroller rental. lol!

@statuette I have the contours options elite that was $$$ (I mean compared to other modulars/doubles i looked at today it wasn’t super crazy I guess) but I LOVED it!!! I think the seats go up to 45lbs (which my big boy is just too heavy for and I’m afraid he’ll break them) and I even used it for a newborn! The seats recline back almost totally flat-which is great for a newborn, it has tons of configurations, and lots of storage! We did end up just buying one today, that holds kids up to 50, so we’ll see- but it definitely wouldn’t be suitable for a newborn. I’ll share the link.

It was $90 less at Walmart than at target!! And at least we’ll have something to keep and not throw the money away on a rental stroller.

@paytonpedro if it’s not a stroller you need to keep for daily, or often, use I’d still rent. We’re here at Disney now, flying with all the crap is a lot. I love our travel stroller, the weight limit is 48lbs, but it was $500. We have the Babyzen yoyo.
  • @anniemarie887 how fun and relevant! I’ll happily accept any new Disney tips you pick up on your trip! Where are you staying? Where has been your favorite place to eat? How have the restrictions been?
We’re driving and staying with my aunt for a week prior, so I would have to bring the wagon or a different stroller anyways probably. But driving gives us the flexibility to bring whatever and not have to worry about checking it on a plane. If we flew I would be way more open to renting I think. Plus also the travel on the buses with a stroller is…so fun.
  • Had my OB intake appointment today (and ultrasound! Yay little blob!) and need to decide which screening / genetic testing to do at my next appointment. Leaning towards just doing the NIPT, no NT scan, and probably not the AFP screening (though that’ll be the appointment after next if I do it). What are y’all doing?
  • @laddy12 nipt is pricy but covered by insurance if you are 35 or will be when baby is born. It is definitely (I think!) the most comprehensive. This is my 3rd and I’ve done the nt scan the last 2 and will be doing it with this one as well. I’m young, 29, and had my first at 23, so I feel good about my decision. If something were to come up on the nt scan, we would pursue further testing.

I think I read recently that nipt is around $200 out of pocket now- which isn’t terrible- and a plus beyond having more clear testing is that you also get to find out the sex of the baby!
  • @paytonpedro my insurance has deemed the NIPT a medically necessary test for all pregnant people not just over 35 which is nice. I’m 32. I had it done with my first pregnancy ~6.5 years ago and the price was astronomical because it was pretty new so $200 seems like a steal!

My understanding is the big thing thing the NT scan could find that NIPT won’t is congenital heart defects but those would be visible on the anatomy scan later on. The NIPT is 99.8% accurate for Down Syndrome, Trisomy 13, and Trisomy 18 according to by OB today so I feel like I’d rather go ahead and know versus getting a maybe on the NT scan then having to do more testing but idk. Definitely wouldn’t mind knowing the sex early though!
  • @laddy12 what insurance do you have?! That’s awesome!! Yes when I looked into it almost 6 years ago it was like $800-900!!!
  • @laddy12 I’m doing the NIPT.  I’ll be 38 when this baby is born so thankfully it is covered.  I paid out of pocket for my first because I gave birth 3 months before turning 35.

@maggiemadeit I listened to that NYT podcast today.  So interesting.
  • @paytonpedro Following.  My son is almost three and is a very tall and solid kid.  He is about 43lbs.

What is the double you have now that your big outgrew?
  • @laddy12 that makes sense. I do like being prepared.
  • @lmaplejc we have the contours options elite. I LOVE IT, and it worked great for a 35lb-er and new born 3 years ago, but last time we used it I was afraid he was going to snap the seat attachments off if he wiggled. And that was a year ago. I think the seats on that go up to 45lbs each.

I also have a wonderfold wagon and I don’t think it has an attachment for newborns or little littles(it might!), but it’s super nice for two in the 25-50lb range, if you’re ever there. And it’s a push wagon! Not pull. So it’s easier on the neck.
  • @paytonpedro good to know about the 45lb weight limit.  I’m really going to need something heavy duty then to contain both...my big is a runner.

I’ve seen the wonderfold!  Will definitely take the plunge once the new kiddo is old enough.
  • The first year of #2's life I pushed him in the infant bucket stroller and DH pushed our 3 year old in the umbrella stroller. After that he was just done strollers. 🤷‍♀️ We didn't go to Disney World, though.
  • @lmaplejc I just bought a more umbrella type stroller today, I posted the link above in a spoiler, but again it wouldn’t be good for a newborn. The seats on that one do go up to 50lbs so I’m hoping it works for our needs and then I’ll have it for #2&3. My second is a runner as well.

@lmaplejc our plan is the wonderfold. We have the 4 seater so I think the baby bucket can sit on the floor.. and F can ride on the opposite chair. But let's be honest, we won't be going much of anywhere as a fam til baby can probably ride in the wonderfold chair 😅. Thanks covid.
  • I am so jealous of all the moms with older kids who will ride in the stroller. My little loves both pitched a fit about being in the stroller as soon as they could walk, and never went back in. I had big dreams of being a running stroller mama and it was so short lived!
  • @maggiemadeit I wish my kid wouldn't ride in the stroller anymore but it is either that or beg to be carried. That's not really a good option considering DS is 43lbs.
  • NIPT ladies (sorry feels like so many to tag!!) - so glad @maggiemadeit ref’Ed the NYT article. My practice is part of a large hospital and you have to see a genetic counselor for NIPT (also if you’re just doing NT). It’s important to know it’s NOT a diagnostic test. That being said, I did it with my first in 2019 when I was 31, and will do it with this baby at 34. If you go through Natera they offer a cash option if I recall correctly is $250. It’s a nuanced test that I don’t think OBs are always the best to explain.

@paytonpedro we are at Old Key West. My parents are DVC members, here until Saturday, a week long trip, all four parks. Wednesday was our “rest” day. True confession: I’m pretty effing tired. We’re a big Disney family, I’ve probably been 40x, but with a toddler and 7 weeks pregnant. Woof. We did 8.9 miles of walking at Epcot the first day. So the whole new genie/lightening lane thing just feels like a lot to manage if you want to avoid waiting as much as possible, I don’t love it. I miss the old school fast pass process. The masking indoor isn’t an issue for me, Maryland has been pretty strict all covid. You can’t get anywhere close to the characters, that’s hard for the littles. We did character breakfast and they just kind of dance around the aisles of the restaurant. As for food, Via Napoli in Epcot is always great - you need reservations for anything sit down in Epcot. Felt like a total shit show for food. Always love counter service in Mexico, the wait was 30 min for counter service tho. MK was easier food wise, we just did counter service nothing earth shattering. Nothing hardcore standing out this time for food, but we’ve been so on the go and with a toddler 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @anniemarie887 thank you for all the information!! We went to Disney when I was 15/16 weeks pregnant with my second and we had an almost 2yo. It was tiring so I know being 17/18 weeks pregnant with 2 kids is going to be…so fun! Lol. This new genie thing seems so confusing to me so we might have to have a whole separate conversation on that lol. Is it not like fast passes? I know we got it but it just seems like it generates a schedule for you….? Idk if I’m into that. Lol. We get the hopper and do dinner in Epcot everyday but with so many closures (is Biergarten in Germany open??) it doesn’t look as fun/tasty as normal.
  • @cas060 I hear you. Is there a specific wonderfold infant insert?  Or just putting the infant car seat in there?
  • @lmaplejc, if you take one side of seats out.. I'm thinking the whole infant bucket could sit on the floor.  Haven't tested my theory yet though.
  • @paytonpedro it is not like fast passes, all the OG Disney ppl that I’ve talked to are not pleased… including strangers in the park. I believe the Biergarten in Epcot was open, this might be the trip you reconsider eating dinner in Epcot tho. Truly an epic mess compared to the other parks. I think my best food was my pulled pork sammy with mango slaw that I got today at OKW. Yum. Totally hit the pregnant lady spot. Feel free to DM me and I can try and answer any questions.
  • QUESTION

Sleeping positions. I’m a stomach sleeper, I know it’s bad, but it is what it is. I’m trying to train myself to sleep on my side before I actually *have* to sleep on my side and it’s so hard. It also makes my hips sore. Any tips? I’ve been trying to use a pillow in between my legs but I tend to kick it away. I also was looking at pregnancy pillows yesterday on Amazon and got SO overwhelmed so if you have a rec for one of those, I’d love that too.

    Thanks!!
  • @itsme215 I used to be a stomach sleeper a long time ago. With that said, I have two different pregnancy pillows, I have the snoogle and one from bed bath and beyond that my fiancé got me. I found the snoogle got flat fairly quickly and this new one took a bit of getting used to. I would get the snoogle if you don’t love having tons of pillows around you
  • @itsme215 I'm also a stomach sleeper, and you don't have to stop sleeping on your stomach until you can't do it anymore. At a certain point it becomes uncomfortable and you naturally sleep on your side. At that point I found a pillow between my legs helped my hips, but I'm still sleeping on my stomach with this pregnancy.
