DD is back to daycare tomorrow after a 2 week sickness! This momma is more than ready and we get to see baby boy on a rescan tomorrow to check some possible issues found at our anatomy scan.
My DD is also back at daycare. She was seeming pretty well this morning, so I'm hopeful she's finally on the mend. Her Urinalysis came back negative, so we still have no real answers. Waiting for lyme results that will hopefully be negative but would also be an answer? idfk at this point.
We have a tour of what I’m hoping is our daycare facility this evening. It is only a mile from our house and ‘reasonable’ pricing. Still dealing with the shock of how expensive daycare is in our area. I don’t not how people afford ~$2k / month just for childcare. 😬
@morgantu glad she is feeling better and fingers crossed it was nothing and won't come back.
My DS has just been booked for surgery next week - removing his adenoids and tonsils. We have been waiting since pre-covid to deal with this issue, he has constant nasal congestion and difficulty breathing at night leading to snoring and probably sleep apnea. Hopefully this will resolve all of that. I am a bit nervous for him going under anesthetic and also the recovery is meant to be painful. Anyone here have a LO go through the same procedure?
@Sarah0335 daycare prices are the worst! We wanted our kids a little closer in age, but as it turns out DD will move into early pre-k (free in our district)right as new baby starts daycare. IDK how people swing it with 2 or 3 kids in full time care all at once. Yikes.
@realhousewife519 DD1's best friend had this done when he was 4. It was for different reasons but the same surgery. I *think* recovery was around 3 weeks if I'm rembering correctly? It was almost 4 years ago now...I do remember his dad telling me that he was pretty sore during the first week or two of recovery but that it got better and they were soooo glad they got it done! Also if it helps I have had a number of my friends' littles go under anesthesia for various reasons and there were never any issues. My anesthesiologist for one of my D&Cs told me that it's safer to be under anesthesia in the hospital nowadays than taking a shower or a bath. I'm sure everything will go perfectly!
@realhousewife519 I haven’t experienced that surgery but a friend’s daughter had it around 4 or 5 due to a fever syndrome and it really changed their lives, little girl was just so much healthier. So I hope that the recovery is swift and you very quickly see an improvement!
Thanks ladies! I don't think my son gets restful sleep right now due to the breathing issues. He has bags under his eyes and sometimes his behaviour is not great. Hoping that this will improve his sleep quality and thereby his behaviour as well!
@Sarah0335 daycare costs are so painful. So so painful. I'm getting nervous about having two kids in full time care. This will also be hitting us right about the same time that student loans are due again. We've never had to pay both at the same time because of COVID. It is gonna be a shock 😭.
@morgantu glad DD is feeling better. Hopefully she is on the up and up now!
@realhousewife519 no experience but I'm sure everything will go well. I hope he has a easy recovery and it helps him sleep better.
@Sarah0335 When I was looking for daycare options for DD1 we actually found that private Montessori school was less expensive than traditional daycare. We didn't need care for a baby though since mat leave is 18 months here and luckily Monressori school startes at 18 months...but this might be a less expensive option for when baby gets a bit older?
@kgg2241 We lucked out a bit in terms of timing. We switched DD1 from private to public school after DD2 was born, and I'll be on medical leave and then mat leave until DD2 starts JK, so we are lucky that we're getting to skip those costs for a while! Honestly not having to pay for 2 in private school at the same time is one of the reasons I was so happy about the timing of this pregnancy 😅
@realhousewife519 it’s a surgery much better tolerated when they are young. The scabs will fall off the incision sites usually around day 10-14 post-op, and he will essentially swallow them. Winter is a more difficult time to get the surgery due to how dry the air is. Can cause some bleeding when the scabs fall off. Would keep a humidifier in the same room with him those first two weeks until the scabs fall off. Probably something the surgeon will go over with you too. But that is really the only time we see kids in the ER after tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy.
@realhousewife519 I was lucky and scrubbed in on 2 pediatric tonsillectomy surgeries. The kiddos were disoriented and upset coming out of anesthesia, but both calmed down when they got Mommy cuddles, and were happy and enjoying popsciles shortly after that. I hope it goes smoothly for you! I know how stressful it is.
@morgantu I'm relieved DD seems to be feeling better!
@sarah0035 those are bonkers prices!! Totally unreasonable! How could the average person afford that?! I thought the $600/month here is painful!
@morgantu Glad the results were negative, and hope you find answers soon! The good thing is that she is feeling better!
@sarah0335 Ugh, daycare costs in this area is INSANE. We are hoping that my parents can help out until the twins for a few months before daycare. No possible way we can afford 3 kids in daycare, so hoping we can get into one of the free pre-k's for DS. Waitlists are also growing, too!
@realhousewife519 Hoping the surgery will go well so that he and you can sleep better!
Thanks for the tips @nightnurse and @goldfishcraker, our house and our climate is very cold and dry in winter. DS normally needs a humidifier anyways but Ill make sure its on while he recovers from this surgery; maybe I'll put two in his room just in case.
Nursery is painted! so so thankful it’s a tiny room compared to the painting I did for DS over the summer that was miserable. And I’ve slowly started moving pieces of the furniture up to it. Unsure when I’ll be motivated to put them together. But I’m sure it’ll happen sooner than later because I’m always eager to get things done 😂
@morgantu I can't GUARANTEE that's the actual price, as we have never actually used daycare because there isn't one that exists here that can accommodate our professions schedule haha. But when I looked into it, it's on average $25-30/ day, non-subsidized. (Lower income families get subsidy based on their income. I believe my cousin pays about $10 per day.) There was also a bill proposed recently to make all formal childcare $10/day for all families in our province. Not sure what the status on that is at the moment though
DS2 had his swimming lesson yesterday. He did SO well! He normally hates it (cold water is my theory) but he did amazing yesterday! He particiated, was giggling, asking for more, and he was such a great listener! Another mom in the change room even commented on what a great listener he is. What a relief that it went so well!
Guys wtf they had me measuring at 30w at my appt today - I measured exactly on time every week with DS and definitely think I was bigger last time looking at pics 😑
@gembud well hopefully that means baby is done cooking sooner and you dont have to be pregnant as long as expected 🤞🏼at least that’s what I tell myself. I have measured 1-2 weeks ahead the last 2 appts. It’s better for me to believe that than the possibility that this baby is just really big and going to be a b*#%$ to push out.
@night_nurse yea I definitely think he’s coming early, with DS I begged for him to come out so he was a week late. This one I’m like mamas busy stay in as long as you like so you know he’ll make a February appearance 😑 Omggg I was almost 10lbs myself, god bless some women, but no thank you!
I am so frustrated right now. My grandmother had tried to give us a wardrobe for the baby, but it was old and falling apart and wouldn’t fit up our stairs. Today DH met a women from Facebook marketplace for a different wardrobe/armoire for 100 bucks and this one wouldn’t fit either. Now we’re out 100 bucks and we were already kind of tight on money but trying to make it work and I’m just sitting here crying. I
@Sarah0335 ugh daycare prices are the worst. We pay $1831/month for my 2 year old all day and my 5 year old to go before and after school. Adding the baby in September will be an additional $1600/month. I am thinking about hiring someone instead.
@faithmovesmountains Is there any way you can sell it online and get at least some if your money back? Or can you take it apart and re-build it once it's up the stairs?
@gembud If it makes you feel any better I was consistently measuring at least 2 weeks ahead with M and she still came late and weighed 8.8. I was WAYYYYYY bigger with N but never measured ahead and she was a full pound and 2 inches smaller...so weird!
@faithmovesmountains I’m so sorry!! I would be so upset too 😩 I second @Panaceia ‘s suggestion of trying to re-sell it on marketplace. I would also encourage you to check if your area has a Buy Nothing or free cycle type group! Lots of folks gift/giveaway furniture and baby items. I am an admin for my local buy nothing group and can help you get connected with your local group if you are running into any issues.
@Panaceia No way to pull it apart sadly. DH wants to repurpose it as a tv cabinet which is fine I guess. I’m just worried about finances and flustered because I wanted so badly for it to work.
It’s the last piece of furniture we need for baby girl’s room and we’ve been struggling to figured out how to afford one and a baby monitor that will work with the setup we have for DS.
@jenis_fan_for_life That might be something. I’m super hesitant now, though, since twice we couldn’t get wardrobes up the stairs. This time DH even temporarily removed the railings which I’m not sure he’s allowed to do since we’re renting, but no dice. Scared to waste people’s time. DH’s friend from work has tried to help him both times and I feel so bad when in the end he came out for nothing.
@faithmovesmountains I'm sorry 😞 That must be so disappointing and so frustrating. Especially when your hopes are up and it's one if the last pieces of the puzzle so to speak.
Just out of curiosity, what monitor are you looking at?
We would have just needed an extra camera, as one monitor can be used for multiple cameras within range, but over the summer DS managed to get ahold of and crack the display of the one we had. The crack has since become substantially worse. We can see him, but it’s obstructed and definitely wouldn’t be ideal with a newborn who is more likely to be less active. So we thought we’d just get the combo set with a camera and monitor again when we have the money.
@faithmovesmountains Oooh that looks like a good one! And totally agree that a cracked monitor is no good! I had to get a new one for baby because I dropped the monitor for the one I used with the girls and it stopped working:/
Spent all night in L&D with mild contractions happening every 1-2mins. I started feeling bad while making dinner around 5pm but figured they’d go away. Finally at midnight after literally laying around doing nothing but drinking water and emptying my bladder the contractions were just getting closer together and more uncomfortable.
Very lucky that there are no cervical changes, and I am FFN negative which I guess indicates I’m at a much lower risk of having pre-term labor. 3 doses of terbutaline and fluids and they are less severe and more spaced out. Get to go home!
@night_nurse oh no! Glad you are able to be home! Hope baby girl stays put for a few more months! @faithmovesmountains Ugh, sorry the situation is frustrating! Are you looking for a closet that hangs clothes? We weren't able to find something for DS at the time, so went to IKEA for a short-term solution (which ended up being long-term). Wish I could show a pic, but I can't find it online! It was a clothing rack that had two rods to hang clothes and two shelves at the bottom. We made it work since we didn't have enough closet space in his room.
@night_nurse Thankful you are back home, tell baby, she's gotta stay awhile longer! Hopefully you are able to get some much needed rest and things stay calmed down 💜
Re: Randoms WO Dec 6
Good luck with your scan! I hope all looks great with your little boy.
