So I've mentioned that my OB has "forbidden" me from losing any more weight. Ok great, I'll do my best, but 3/3 pregnancies so far have proven that isn't possible.
Well I am doing my best to follow their wishes, but eating leftover the "practice" cake I made for DDs party next weekend probably wasn't what they had in mind... But damn, does it do a good job of curbing my nausea in-between meals 😂😂
@jandawg we are trying the same thing with my 20 month old. Currently we give it to her only during naps/bedtime. Overall she’s done good but other times she just keeps asking and asking for her paci. I don’t even want to think what it will be like when we take it away for good in the near future.
@pajamstagrams I am afraid of that. My husbands niece sucked her thumb for years that she dentist threatened to intervene if she didn’t stop.
@addsprinkles521 DD is 3 and we're nowhere near breaking the habit 😩 distraction works when we can see her, but there's nothing I can do when she's in the car or at daycare or sleeping. Her teeth/palate have been affected by it but so far it's not causing any speech issues IMO (the SLP we saw disagreed and had a very doomsday opinion about it 🙄)
@pajamstagrams DD2 kept her paci until 3 and she sucked it hard! It definitely did change the shape of her pallets and I think shifter her teeth h. She does have some speech delays too that I think are related. Even with all that, I noticed her teeth shifting back into proper place literally within a month of her being off the paci. Her speech has taken longer, but she’s almost 4 now and I’d say it’s massively improved (we’re talking about strangers barely understanding her to them being able to understand 75% of what she says). She probably will still need speech therapy eventually, but honestly that’s nbd to me. Both my husband and inhale to have it as kids too
@skc040512 well that gives me hope that maybe DDs mouth will shift back, whenever she breaks the habit!! I personally think she's really easy to understand and some of her doctors have agreed as well, so I'm hopeful we don't need it, or if we do, it's just for a short time. 🤞 (And with a different SLP lol)
I think I’m getting pushed to the June BMB my dating ultrasound is Thursday so I’ll confirm but I’m going to be doing an introduction in June just to be sure! I’ll keep everyone update!
Started calling daycares yesterday and some of them are already booked through to 2023…yikes! They’re so expensive too! Our neighborhood elementary school has pre K on a sliding scale and now I’m wondering if I should just stay home until then.
@blue-heron yeah daycares around me fill up super quick, usually a 1 yr+ wait-list. I still need to contact our daycare and get on the wait-list, but I want to hold off until my 12 weeks appointment... figure since my kid is already there, and it's my work sponsored daycare, I get preference over some random person who doesn't work for my company 😬
Random Q for all of those who have their kid(s) currently in daycare. If your daycare closes due to covid, do you still pay the full tuition? Not sure if this is a dumb question or not.
I don’t think ours has much of a sibling discount, if any at all, and I’m dreading looking for a new one if that’s the case. We love our daycare but…idk. ETA not sure if this is normal too. At this point my entire paycheck is going to go to daycare and our healthcare. Whompwhomp.
@b_1029 for the times that DD's program was shut down due to a covid case, we got a credit for those days she was out. I never bothered to calculate if it was the full 10 day quarantine period or if they prorated it because we tested and sent her back early. I'm just super impressed they gave us credit back so I didn't care.
I have no clue if there's a sibling discount for ours...guess I'll find out later. If yes, great! If not, whatever, we're still staying there. It's sooooo much cheaper than the daycares in my neighborhood, hours are better (i would struggle to meet my "required" hours every day if we went with a local daycare because they just aren't open early enough or late enough for me), and I like the staff there, they're pretty flexible and have worked with us on so many unique/special cases.
@pajamstagrams that’s what we’re frustrated about, her daycare is closed all week and it has been closed a full week for covid before also. They don’t give any sort of credit so we’re like…?? How many times is this going to happen? It’s frustrating we are shouldering the full financial burden of it, scrambling for alternate childcare etc.
We got to hear the heartbeat today and everything came back great for our NIPT results! It's such a struggle to not peek at the gender before our party next month 😫
It’s very windy and rainy here today. I’m just thankful it isn’t snow yet. Both kids are getting their flu shot this week and I got my covid vaccine booster today. Thankful for any additional protection I can get for myself and bb, as about half of the patients on our unit this past weekend were covid positive. I’m trying not to care for the positive patients overall but as a charge nurse in an emergency I have to attend.
@karisahamdi and @And846 props to you both because I haven’t even gotten mine back yet and I’m dying. 0 self control and I will be looking the second we get it back 😬😂
Ok all you Momma’s trying to get rid of the pacifier, here’s what worked like a charm with my 2 who used one. Find all of the pacifiers and cut the very tip off them. Give them to your child like you normally would. If they try to give it back to you, you say, “Oh, that one must be broken.” and hand them another one. After 2 days, cut a little more off the pacifiers and continue as usual. Cut a little bit more off after 2 more days. By day 5-7, my kids just gave up and never looked back.
@b_1029 I don't think it's a dumb question at all! I think every daycare has a different policy. Our daycare doesn't discount for covid-related closings or quarantines. We had one covid case in the daycare last year (not DD's class), and that class + its teachers all quarantined and tested as well as any siblings also in the daycare. Everyone else continued as normal. Does your daycare shut the entire facility down? I don't know how your daycare is structured, but it feels like overkill if they're separated in classrooms and they're shutting the entire place down every time there's a case. That would really frustrate me.
I am a little frustrated that our daycare makes DD quarantine for 10 days if she leaves the state--so like when we drive to my brother's for Thanksgiving this year. I understand they want to draw a line but I'm not sure how it is that much different for us to travel 5 hours by car within the state vs. 5 hours by care but leave the state. We're going to use that time to potty train, though, so yay? ;-)
@Bababatty they shut the entire place down this time because the director has covid and she makes their lunches, floats around classrooms, etc. Last time a kid tested positive in one of the toddler rooms but they combine at the end of the day, so both toddler rooms closed and the infant room stayed open.
@happynapper thank you for being a nurse! Hope you don’t get any uncomfortable side effects from the booster. I don’t get mine for another month…I had horrible side effects from my second dose and I don’t think I could handle it on top of MS and overall exhaustion. Stay safe!!
@happynapper Echoing @tacosandtums--and congratulations on getting your booster! I'm curious if you're finding the side effects similar to the second dose, worse, or better?
@b_1029 ours gave us zero tuition 1 time. I am not certain why. Fir previous closures we were charged full tuition. The last time none. I noticed a new clause in the contract at renewal this year that we still pay full tuition even if the center is closed, so I think a parent pushed the legality of charging when the pod was closed. I don't know for certain. I know margins are super close in daycare and most of their overhead doesn't change even if a pod is closed, so I get it, but it's also frustrating to pay for something you cannot use.
It really is a lose-lose situation to have to pay for childcare when it’s not open but you still have to work. DD was in 4yo childcare when covid started and they were closed for 2 weeks in that first shutdown and we were still charged. However I pulled her out after that and haven’t used a center since then so I can’t speak to any recent policies.
@gadzooks_3 yea, it’s definitely a lose lose situation! I totally get that daycare needs to keep the lights on, but it’s also frustrating that they still get paid and we get nothing 😆 what a time to have kids in daycare!
@tacosandtums@Bababatty thank you! I had more injection site pain during the night than I had with the first 2. It kept me awake quite a bit but is better this morning. I am about 21 hours post injection and having some body aches which is exactly on timeline with my second dose. I will update later today but I’m hoping an afternoon nap and early bedtime will be the extent of it!!
I have literally no idea how I’m going to handle 2 kids (especially since DD will be a hair under 2 years old when this baby is born) when I can’t even handle DD 🙃 this has been a sh*t show of a day. I lost my cool and yelled at her this morning, which immediately made me start crying because I felt like the worst mom ever. Then she has just been in a bad mood all day, she yelled at me throughout lunch, wouldn’t go down for a nap, etc. It doesn’t help that I thought my MIL and SIL would be able to watch her today since that’s what they told me (daycare is still closed) but what they didn’t tell me is there’s a 3 hour gap in coverage. Couldn’t really switch all my meetings during that time with such short notice. Anyway sorry for the word vomit but it has been a DAY and I wish I could end it with a margarita.
@b_1029 I’m sorry it’s been such a rough morning… I can’t imagine working with any kids at home that would be rough
My final update after my Pfizer booster: I had body aches and fatigue for about 2 hours yesterday morning. I took Tylenol and rested on the couch and by mid morning I was feeling completely fine again. These were the same symptoms I experienced (minus chills) and the same timeframe as dose 2, but MUCH shorter lived. Wanted to be sure to update for anyone else who is eligible/considering getting a booster dose as well.
@b_1029 you’re not a bad mom!! But I know how you feel. I can say once the baby is born, it gets a lot easier… pregnancy was so hard for me, wrought with emotions and physical side effects…. But once it’s 2 outside babies, it feels differently. I can’t explain it. Give yourself permission to lower your standards for a bit, fed safe and happy are the priorities for parenting while pregnant (at least that’s what I tell myself!!)
@b_1029 I'm sorry you had such a rough day! This is an incredibly tough time, especially with the stress of trying to work and provide "mommy daycare" while your daycare is closed--on top of all the emotions that go along with being pregnant. You're definitely not a bad mom. We all have days when we regret how we acted, but they won't matter in the long-run because the sum of the good/great days vastly outnumbers them. Definitely give yourself some grace--and maybe give yourself and DD a treat, whatever that looks like, and you can end the day on a high note.
@happynapper Thanks for the update! I'm glad you're already feeling back to normal again. I remain confused on booster eligibility, but I'll definitely jump on it whenever I'm given the go-ahead.

In other news, I am on day 6 of trying to wean my 21 month old off the pacifier (cold turkey) and we are all exhausted.
I have no clue if there's a sibling discount for ours...guess I'll find out later. If yes, great! If not, whatever, we're still staying there.
