One of my guilty pleasures is listening to the local police and fire scanner when I hear lots of action going on (my work is near both the police and fire station so we can always hear the sirens). Today, they were hunting for a man who violated a restraining order and was on the property of the woman who has the order. A manhunt ensued as they couldn't find him. I think they might still be looking, but they moved to a private scanner. It was a wild ride though listening to the start of it all. Solid Tuesday entertainment.

@acleverusername former reporter here. There are a few websites out there where you can listen to police scanners around the US (I can't speak to other countries). They do sometimes go private/offline when something really serious is happening.

I'm over on amazon looking at OPK strips for ...reasons... because i'd like to know my ovulation timing next week and i'm all fresh out of my old stock. and the reviews for these things are the DUMBEST, omg. love/hate all the women out there who are like "i got pregnant the first time i used this! totally recommend this brand to everyone now!!!" like, lady, that just tells me you're lucky and also hella fecund. it doesn't tell me diddly squat about the test itself except i guess that it maybe performs its basic function.

May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. PGT-A results all abnormal. Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow. Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal. Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP. May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy. July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen. @optimistgardener it's the same with the Pressed lube! And even worse is the reviews for FertilAid for men. Like girl no that didn't do shit to YH's sperm in a matter of weeks. It did nothing for you conceiving in the first cycle YH took it.

Oh, and while I'm here... I took the opportunity today while presenting a lecture on gender and power in early modernity to fit in some interesting tidbits about fertility (this doesn't reflect my own personal struggles with it so whatever, I have no shame in talking about the particulars of human biology in front of a room full of 20-year-olds). I described the common experience of "false pregnancy" (a condition in which women experience all of the symptoms of pregnancy, including cessation of menses and abdominal growth) among elite women who hoped to become mothers to the heir of the throne, and made sure my students thought about how stressful and traumatizing the pressure of conceiving must have been for them. i then also chatted a little bit about the apparently quite sophisticated measures for contraception that were deployed in many early modern courts across Asia, and the likelihood that many were using some form of cycle tracking to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Today was a good teaching day.

@optimistgardener. omg I used to teach development economics to undergrads and on the day we talked about fertility and the demographic transition, it's important to me that they understand that modern hormonal contraception is not the only way to reduce fertility (esp at a population level), and I probe them until I finally get someone to say "pulling out", and it was always my favorite day in class.

@bumblebee0210 *TW* speaking of "pulling out", I'll never forget the look on my brother's face when we were sitting at dinner with my younger, macho, meathead cousin who had to admit that he knocked up his (casual) girlfriend because "pulling out doesn't always work?" Said with a modicum of uncertainty, as if this was the first time it occurred to him that it wasn't 100% effective. I thought my brother was going to spit his wine across the room.

OMG…. @bumblebee0210 your story reminded me of my undergrad human sexuality class (it was such a popular class that ppl willingly suffered through 2 intro psych classes just to take it) where at one of the classes, where we talked about euphemisms for our reproductive parts, the prof would make the whole lecture hall shout out the euphemisms at the top of our lungs. So imagine walking by the classroom of 300 undergrads yelling things like “bird”, “beaver”, “ding dong”, “vajayjay” at the top of their lungs.

Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
