Re: The Great Question Thread

  • @djunaw13 so so sorry to hear this. I haven’t experienced them personally. But pregnant women are much more prone to them! I’ve taken care of a lot of moms with them and it’s no fun. Continue with the TONS of fluid drinking and hopefully they pass soon. And Tylenol for sure to help!

  • Thanks everyone for the advice & well-wishes. ❤️❤️
  • @djunaw13 I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that. NSAIDs do the best for ureter pain from kidney stones but obviously that is a no-go while pregnant. Has your doctor referred you to a urologist? You’re definitely doing the right thing by staying extra hydrated, that’ll help move the stones. Acidic juices like lemon juice or pineapple juice may help as well. If you feel like the pain is worsening, taking too long to go away, or you develop a fever definitely go back in. In non-pregnant people sometimes they have to insert a stent into the ureter to help open it up more to allow the stone to pass. I’m really not sure if they will do that while you’re pregnant though. I really hope they pass quickly.
  • @djunaw13 I’m so sorry. My SIL went through the same thing and eventually the stones did move on their own but I know it was so horribly painful and she and baby were just fine. I hope you feel better soon.
  • @djunaw13 oh my gosh I can only imagine how horrible that is! I'm so sorry you're going through this! I hope they pass soon and you get relief!
  • @night_nurse my OB-GYNE actually gave me a one-time dose of IV ketorolac in hospital and told me I could take Aspirin short-term since I’m before 30 weeks. Certainly makes me nervous though bc everything I’ve ever read states NSAIDs are contraindicated. Gah! He also said a stent is a possibility during pregnancy if the pain is unmanageable but I’m trying to do all I can to avoid that option.
I’m so frustrated because I’ve been trying to be so healthy during this pregnancy, eating well and avoiding all meds even Tylenol up until now and now I’m taking NSAIDs and IV Dilaudid and feeling like such a crappy mom haha
  • @djunaw13 absolutely NOT a crappy mom. Such a hard situation to be in. Your health matters ❤️
  • @djunaw13 - if it helps, I used to work with car accident victims. Many of them were on very serious pain meds just to make it through the day. I saw clients go through healthy pregnancies and have healthy babies despite being on some very serious pain meds daily for the whole pregnancy. I remind myself of that whenever I feel bad taking extra strength tylenol etc. Chin up and hope you feel better soon.
  • Thanks everyone so much for your kind & supportive words, means a lot to me ❤️❤️❤️
  • Openly admitting that I'm far too lazy to search through this thread, so I apologize if anyone has asked/mentioned this. Is anyone else super itchy? My hands and feet, toes, and ankles are itching like a madman yesterday and today when I woke up. I dunno if I'm becoming crazy or just need to wait a day and see. Called the OBs off I've been seeing through MFM because I know the main concern could be cholestasis. I guess this is less of a question and more of a vent/concern that comeon can't ANYTHING this pregnancy not be worrisome? While also wondering if anyone else has experienced this in a previous pregnancy or even currently.

  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I was itchy with last pregnancy and this one. I wouldn’t say it’s limited to my feet/ankles, it’s more like hypersensitive all over. My right boob and my left thigh are itchy right at this moment. It’s like my skin is just crawling and prickly nonstop. I have no words of wisdom. It’s good to get checked out for choleostasis but I hope you’re just doomed, as I am, to be a benign itchy mess (or that you stop itching, obvi).
  • @lurvleybunchococonuts I had about a month of random, extremely itchy rashes that I could not directly tie to any type of exposure. OB said if it happened again they’d run a metabolic panel to check my liver enzymes and of course it became less frequent and eventually went away. Hopefully they’ll just run labs to rule that out. If it’s keeping you from sleeping maybe try half a benadryl and see if it helps? I totally agree though that there are endless things to worry about and seemingly few answers most of the time.
  • Anyone have a support tank top they recommend? This 20w belly is feeling so heavy and fatigued lately! I have a blanqi one, but probably need more than one to rotate. Not so keen on spending that much again if there’s another brand others have had good experience with!
  • @jenis_fan_for_life just throwing in there that blanqi is having a huge sale! I wouldn’t buy full price. But I just bought a couple things 50% off!
  • @jenis_fan_for_life blanqi is the only one I’ve ever liked so I bought another one during their current sale (and 3 pairs of leggings). 😂😬
  • @night_nurse @rachelredhead I'll take random itchiness just so long as it isn't cholestasis lol.  We're waiting on a bile acids test. Thankfully the nurse said I can take Benadryl, Zyrtec, or Claritin to manage symptoms!

  • @rachelredhead I wish the blanqi leggings had pockets!
  • @nursejenn5 @rachelredhead thank you! This is exactly what I needed to hear!! I wore my Blanqi support tank today and felt SO much better, so I treated myself to two more tanks and two pairs of leggings 😬
  • First babe I used the Kiinde bottle system. Which I truly loved(so did DH for less bottle cleaning). This time around, Especially with the milk storing
guidelines being changed (can put warm breast milk in with cold), I want to find a different way to store milk (jury is out on probably still using kiinde for feeding so DH and I don’t have major bottle cleaning arguments and for some actual freezer storage). I never made a giant stash because I didn’t feel the need to, and I probably won’t with this babe.
So. What all have people used for storage? (Glass jars, silicone bags etc?) I’d like to try and have less waste? Because the kiinde system is so much plastic!
  • @nursejenn5 good question! I did the Lansinoh storage bags and will mostly use those again to make things easier on her daycare, but I do want to figure something else out for whatever we keep at home. These look kind of cool because it looks like you can add a bottle lid to the jar and then eventually turn them into sippy cups. Link in spoiler.

  • @nursejenn5 I did not know about that change!! I didn’t stash as DS refused bottles, but interested to hear what others say since I’d like to do both with this one
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • We used Lansinoh bags with DD with what little I did stash.  DD was able to go to work with me, thankfully for almost 2 years.  She refused bottles but we made it work. With this baby, we are going to be doing a daycare transition earlier so following for what others have to say.  Also I had never heard of the Kiinde system!  That looks really neat, but yes lots of plastic waste
  • I have my glucose screening next week.  I failed both the 1 hour and 3 hour with DD.  Has anyone had GD for one pregnancy and not the next?  I haven't gained weight this time as I did with DD, so I'm hoping I'm in the clear this time, but I don't know that means anything.
  • @nursejenn5 We also used the Kiinde system, and loved that I could directly pump into the bag. Agree with lots of plastic waste, but at least the bags are recyclable.
  • @friends-fan My friend had it with her second but not her first...and I think my SIL only had it once...but not with the other 2? I have my screening next week too. I didn't have it with my first 2 but I'm older and rounder now...
  • @friends-fan they say your at higher risk to have it again. But I’ve taken care of A LOT of women that have had it for one pregnancy and not the other.
  • @Panaceia LOL. Older here too but hoping I'm healthier this go around. With DD, I craved sweets and I was terrible about just eating whatever I wanted.  With baby boy, I have been trying to do much better.  It helps that he hated any kind of sweet for the first 4 months and I would vomit at the thought of chocolate 🙄  Positive thoughts for yours to go well also!

@nursejenn5 thank you! Thats comforting to know.  I'm hoping that's the case for me.
  • Did anyone pass the 1 hour glucose test and still have to do a 3 hour? I’ve never had GD with my other 2 pregnancies but because my second son was 10 pounds, they wanted me to do an early screening. I took the one hour already and passed it but they’re still making me do the 3 hour one 😩 I don’t want to!
  • @MusicalFamily if they had you do it before 24 weeks them they might ask you to do another screening:/ Totally unfair though!!! Especially if you haven't had it before. Can you ask them if it's absolutely necessary? I feel like they should have read you the fine print if they were going to want you to do it again...drinking that stuff twice is definitely its own kind of torture!
  • @MusicalFamily I failed the 1 hour with my first by 7 points. So I did the 3 hour and passed with flying colors. Honesty other than the fact my final blood sugar was crazy low, I get worse after the 1 hour than I did the 3. (The first hour of the 3 was the worst part) but I chugged lots of water and just kind of paced the room I was waiting in a bit.
  • @MusicalFamily that totally sucks. Failed the 1hr and passed the 3hr with my first. It definitely was not fun. Have you asked if you could instead monitor your fasting and most meal blood sugars for a set amount of time instead of doing the test? I know that is typically an acceptable option for low-risk pregnancies. Maybe they would allow you to do that too.
  • So, I have one of those TMI personal questions but without calling my dr after hours and being humiliated for something thats probably just normal and I never noticed with prior pregnancy.  When I went to the restroom, I just noticed the right side of my pelvic area? I don't know what the appropriate term is...below the hairline, is swollen, but only on my right side? It's also tender, almost as if ive been kicked there?  Please tell me this is normal as I'm over here worrying now and OB is closed for the day.
  • @friends-fan Have you had a previous c-section? Is it warm to the touch? Is it red? You could have pulled a muscle without realizing maybe? That area for me is a little tender and puffy, but I think mine is mostly due to previous c-sections and extra weight that I don't need...I would probably watch and see what it does over night and then call your doctor in the morning. My OB says if there is no bleeding, leaking of fluid or severe cramping then baby is likely fine, but I would probably call tomorrow anyways just to be sure your OB is at least aware of it and to rule out anything else like infection.
  • No C-section. Not red,  Just tender, no major pain or fluid or anything. You're probably right. Maybe a pulled muscle.  I'm probably just being paranoid. But I will call OB tomorrow to make sure.
  • @friends-fan is it the labia that's swollen?
I'm very curious to find out the cause. One sided, I'd usually think some sort of infection. But uuusually there'd be some warmth and /redness, possibly discharge...
    No trauma to the area?
Could be a cyst.. but I shouldt speculate because a diagnosis is not likely without an assessment haha.

Personally, everything down there is swollen and enlarged and funky colour and hypersensitive. 😅 But it's bilateral. Increased blood flow and hormones and all that.
  • @friends-fan I have no idea if this is what you are experiencing, but one thing that can come up in pregnancy is varicose veins. Those can cause swelling, discomfort, discoloration, etc. They can happen in many places - legs, pelvic area, vulva/labia, etc.
  • @goldfishcraker @jenis_fan_for_life sorry, I crashed out last night. DD came home early from daycare with a stomach bug and I believe I now have it as well 🙄  My OB office is closed today, and I assume tomorrow as well with the Thanksgiving holiday.  I go back to work Friday but I may try to call on break or something. My next appt is Monday so I should probably hold off since it doesn't seem to be anything major.  The swelling doesn't seem as bad as it was last night, I had my DH look just so I knew I was imagining it.  I did notice there is a varicose veins leading up to it that is kinda covered up due to swelling. I bet thats the cause.  Thank you all for calming my nerves!  I will be sure to bring it up to my OB Monday and see if he can give me a good answer.
  • @nursejenn5 I pumped straight into bottles. Then if I pumped more than needed for the next day I transferred only the "extra" milk into storage bags and froze them.
  • I just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. My 2 hr test was no good, supposed normal blood sugar level is 8.5 and mine was 9.6. Did anybody manage their GD in a previous pregnancy all the way to a normal birth, and also avoided having diabetes postpartum? I really need some hope right now.

I started eating clean yesterday, added 30mins of walking time and started a food diary (required by my OB). I’m also supposed to test my blood sugar 7 times a day for 2-4 weeks.
