Re: ***TW*** Spotting/Bleeding/Threatened Loss Support Thread

  • Yay @Jeenyus !!!! I'm so happy to hear this update!!! I know when the placenta starts to take over more around 8 weeks that symptoms can start to calm down as hormones calm down, so I'm sure that is playing into your symptoms being less severe also! (I remind myself of this ever time I start feeling a bit less sick...)

@Panaceia  I suppose that is very true.  I need to stop comparing pregnancies.  With my daughter, I was puking through to the beginning of the second tri.  Every other pregnancy, bleeding and cramping = miscarriage is coming.

Are you finding your symptoms are easing up a bit too?

  • Unfortunately my news was not good. Went for a repeat US on Wednesday and baby only measured 2 days of growth over 8 days. Measuring about 2 weeks behind now. HR was either lower or non existent (they detected a heart beat but were pretty sure it was mine at 80bpm). Got sent for HCG labs that day and repeat today to confirm  but I already know the outcome. Pretty devastated. Just hoping there’s no ectopic thing going on. No bleeding on my own and results from today weren’t back yet so waiting until Monday to talk to the doc for next steps.

Big hugs to all of you and hope your outcomes are better. 💕 Hope to be back in the future.
  • @runnergirl2018 I’m so sorry. There are no words. I’m thinking of you as you grieve.
  • @jeenyus I am unfortunately one of those lucky people who are sick and vomiting literally until delivery:/ BUT I am definitely finding that I am having more manageable moments than a couple of weeks ago...which always make me nervous!

  • I had my first appointment this morning and it was pretty rough. I either have a blighted ovum or ectopic. Bloodwork today and repeat Wednesday and a follow up next week. She thinks my dates could be wrong but I’m 100% sure they’re not. I’m pretty devastated.

  • Thank you all for your support. i have deleted my pregnancy from my account but have a question..
so I had labs end of last week - HCG dropped a little over 48 hours but was relatively stable and still considered high enough, so they had me come back in again for an ultrasound today to see what was going on.  I should be 9 weeks, but at the very least if i'm way off somehow (i don't know how) 8wks.  No growth shown  over 2 weeks.  2 weeks ago i measured 6w1d, last week 6w3d, and today 6w1d .  Last week the impression was they only picked up my heart beat.  Today they again picked up a low heart beat - 83bpm (last week was 80bpm, week before was 88bpm).  Essentially the message I got today was that it's likely heading in miscarriage direction and it's "concerning" that there's been no growth, but that they won't call it a miscarriage because there's still a potential heart beat.  they admit that they cannot tell with accuracy if it's  mine or baby's and because of that the doc essentially said "our hands are tied, we just have to wait and check again in a week".  so i have to go back again in a week - if no heart beat then they will do something if my body doesn't miscarry and bleed on it's own. They've had to do transvaginal ultrasounds each time.
Has anyone else been in this boat?  I know baby is not growing and not going to make it, we are measuring 2-3 weeks behind and no sign of catching up. I think I'm also just surprised that the response was, we just have to wait and see.  I just want to be able to let go of this one, which is hard enough, let my body heal, and try again
  • @runnergirl2018 can they see the flickering of the heartbeat on the ultrasound? That’s usually what we determine if there’s a heartbeat or not. Then check moms pulse at the same time to see if what you’re hearing audibly lines up with what’s being felt from mom. (We do something similar in labor to make sure if we’re getting baby’s heart rate vs moms)
I am so sorry you’re having to go through this and that it’s being long and drug out for you. Many hugs.
  • @runnergirl2018 so sorry you are going through this. With one of my losses, the type of US machine they had was able to detect blood flow, nor just heartbeat. So we could see there was no blood flow through baby. Maybe they can refer to a practice with more detailed US procedures. I know for me the process of sitting and waiting for my body to do its job was incredibly emotional. Hope you get some solid answers soon!
  • I had my appointment today and baby is measuring two weeks behind. I'm very regular, so I doubt the dates could be off. I go back in next week for a growth check, but I think this is it for me.
  • @runnergirl2018 With my first loss they had me come back 2 weeks later because of my hcg, but by then the pregnancy was already starting to deteriorate and there was no heartbeat. Here they don't listen to the heartbeat, only do it visually so it was obvious there was no movement. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. My doctor later told me that they were sure of the loss at my first ultrasound, but had me come back for a follow up so that I was comfortable accepting the loss. With my second I opted for a D&C immediately despite the high betas, because they could confirm there was no heart beat. I hope they are able to give you some definite answers soon ❤
  • I'm so sorry @abjm0325 💔
  • @abjm0325 I'm so sorry! That is such sad news and so unfair. We are here for you!

  • @nursejenn5 last week the opinion was they were only picking up my heart beat. They had me hold my breath a few times but didn’t do anything to check my pulse to compare 🤷🏻‍♀️  This week the doc said they saw a flicker and when I mentioned what his partner said last week he said it is possible that what they picked up was me and not baby but they couldn’t say with certainty.  Maybe I’ll press them more on it next time during the ultrasound

@luckyduck42 I may see if they can refer me out if I get the same response next week. It’s so hard just waiting when I feel like the outcome is obvious. I’m also just crossing my fingers my body doesn’t just start bleeding in the middle of a meeting with one of my patients (I’m a therapist) 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Panaceia thank you for sharing that. I feel like I’ve been grieving the loss since last week but just having to carry around this little bean anyways.  The doc yesterday didn’t give me any other option besides waiting - was it like that for you?
  • @runnergirl2018 I’m so sorry you’re going through this!  It’s so hard to grieve and even contemplate moving forward when there is no closure.  I hope your next appt gives you some closure one way or another!

@abjm0325 So sorry about your appt. Hopefully your next appt will either give you some closure or some hope ❤️
  • @runnergirl2018 They gave me the option of a D&C, misoprostol (the medication), or just miscarriage naturally. I had started lightly spotting right after my follow up ultrasound so I chose to miscarry naturally...which in hindsight I would not have done...I spotted really lightly for about 2 to 3 weeks and then my body totally freaked out, and I hemhorraged and almost completely bled out which was terrifying and took months to recover from physically. Fun fact, when you hemorrhage they give you the misoprostol anyways because it helps contract the uterus which in turn helps to stop the bleeding. I had 2 doses of this, neither of which worked. At that point I basically had no blood left and they did a D&C to clean out anything that was left and try again to stop the bleeding. Luckily it worked. That is the main reason why for the second loss my doctor sent me same day for a D&C. They never figured out why I hemhorraged so now we err on the side of caution with every loss. If they are able to confirm that there is no heartbeat at your next appointment I would push for a D&C if you are comfortable with that. There was literally no warning before my hemorrhage (I had gone on a school trip with my daughter's class that day, and just gotten back from her gymnastics class when it started). I'm not sure what would have happened had it started while I was at work. Thinking of you ❤

I am so sorry you are going through this. limbo is horrible.

Both my losses have been spontaneous.
My last experience was similar in some ways to Panaceia.
    TW****
in the morning, I had a big gush (I hoped it was just the SCH). I booked off work, Went back to bed and about 5 hours later, got up, and started gushing.
Dr told me to go to the ER, called DH, who came home to pick me up. Within an hour of triage, I was bleeding so heavily, that everyone was freaking out. I bled for hours while they tried to stop it. lost nearly 3 L. They gave me the option of Misoprostol or a D&C. (I also needed various other meds to finally stop the bleeding). I got 2 doses of Miso in the ER.
10 days later I was still bleeding heavily, so the OB gave me another 2 days of Miso.
I should have taken the D&C. I also should have accepted the blood transfusion. It took 6+ weeks to recover.

My previous loss was earlier, and was basically spotting, which quickly became heavier than period that lasted 2 weeks. they didn't offer anything except to let it happen naturally.

    End TW*

I don't understand why they aren't giving you options/discussing them, in your situation. I'm so sorry you're going through this
  • @runnergirl2018
So sorry you are in this position. I want to echo the others and say at your next appt, if you are comfortable with a d&c, go that route.

    TW...

I also had a situation where I was stuck waiting even when I was confident it was a loss. I opted for miso and it didn't work- then I ended up with a d&c and losing a ton of blood and almost needing a transfusion. I think I could have avoided it if I went for the d&c from the beginning. I would not do medical management (miso) again on my own).
