Dress help!

I’m in a wedding in September. I’ll be 3 months when should I get my dress altered I’m so nervous bc it fit so perfect when i ordered it. I just didn’t have the foresight to know we’d be trying to get pregnant. I don’t know what to do if i need extra fabric, it took months for the dress to come in.  Has anyone felt with this?

Re: Dress help!

  • I wouldn’t stress about it and just find a good seamstress for alterations. Let them know the situation and discuss options. They should be able to work out a solution if you are showing early or if your body changes. Babies and weddings are both things to celebrate and enjoy!

  • Is it form fitting or flowy? If it's flowy/loose around the middle you're probably fine, my only concern would be in the bust area.

  • @katek819 Most tailors require a 6 week lead time, so I would try to go maybe 7 or 8 weeks before to give yourself some cushion. Don't stress though. I'm sure a good seamstress will be able to figure it out. I agree that I wouldn't be so worried about a bump, but more so the chest area.
  • it it is flowy thank god. Thanks for the advice. Just wonder what can be done if my boobs don’t fit
  • @katek819 seamstresses are legit geniuses. I’d go in now if possible and ask him/her what kind of adjustments can be made so you have an idea where you might be able to get another couple inches. My boobs don’t tend to explode until third tri so maybe you’ll be fine!
  • This happened with my first... I tried on a perfect, fitted bridesmaid dress in like April.  Got pregnant in June (deja vu!) and the wedding was in October.  I was almost 5 months pregnant and somehow managed to squeeze into the dress.  I couldn't bend over or sit down comfortably, but it worked out.  Everyone's body is different, but you should be okay at 3 months in a flowy dress if you communicate your concerns with the seamstress.

I think because it’s flowy you should be ok! Definitely have a good seamstress if needed though. I ordered a dress in my first trimester that I had to wear 15 days before my due date, that was a hot mess DH had to cut me out of it at the end of the night 😂

  • I’m in the same boat. My sisters wedding is September 30. I am her maid of honour. The dress is a very small size that was right when I ordered it Over a year ago (the wedding was postponed due to Covid). Not much fabric available to let it out. Have not decided what to do
  • Luckily it is a little big in the boobs already but i don’t have much tummy room. I just bought a slip that smoothes your hips so hopefully that will help me.
