The Baby Name Thread

  •  I won’t know the sex for a couple more weeks. Postponing the name battle till then. I knew what my first would be called even from the earlier scans. My husband was grouchy the entire pregnancy and refused to go with me. He received her first after birth and couldn’t help but refer to her by the name I picked because she looked the name 😍

now ya’ll understand why I’m saving my breathe. This baby looks like a boy from the NIPT scan and doesn’t look like any boy name we had lined up. I’m looking forward to summer break to roll my sleeves and go head on with him this time 😂
  • My partner keeps coming up with stupid names as a joke, but the joke is getting boring and now I snap at him when he does it 😂

I really like Atticus for a girl, Atty for short, but we've decided that poor little one would have to learn how to spell Atticus and it's technically a boy's name (although we don't follow those rules). We figured if we use it as a middle name, and she hates the name, she doesn't have to make it publically known however if she loves it she can go by Atticus or Atty if she so wishes! So our current front runner is Lily Atticus.

That would be annoying when trying to have a serious conversation about anything!
  • @jenharvey84 I think keeping it as a middle name is a nice compromise without fully giving up on a name you really like! Just throwing it out there, but Artemis has similar sounds to Atticus and is a girl's name (depending on how much that matters to you.)
  • I would love to see those names, I'm so intrigued when people do that 😂 @doodleoodle
  • Oh god, it's like "What do you think of Dumbo for a baby girl" - funny the first time, now extremely annoying 😂😂

Hopefully she doesn’t find this lol

Has.lie (pronounced haze-lee) and Kyl.ei (I spelled Kylie the way she spelled it.. ei)
  • I'm really not a fan of unconventional spelling for names. Not really sure exactly why it bothers me, but it always has. I know a girl from high school who named her kids very common names but with alternate spelling, Jessika and Jakson. I don't know what she has against "c"s but clearly they wronged her at some point in her life.  Those kids are going to be correcting people for life.

I do love "weird" or just unconventional names but I want them spelled correctly 😂.  We are in the same boat though that if we go with a less typical name that the middle has to be pretty tame, or vice versa,  so they have options at any point in life.  @jenharvey84 I think Lily Atticus is freaking adorable.
  • Anyone set or far along on a name yet? We're very likely to go with Marielle (no middle name chosen yet). I'm a weirdo who can't use the name until they're here, but MH has been calling her by that name for weeks lol
  • @marbellie haha, I was calling my first born but the name I chose for like 4 months, though my husband did not agree to it. This time around he wants to be the one that gets to pick the name, but his options have been too mainstream. I’ve told him that if he pushed too hard with a lame first name, I’ll let him go ahead, but the baby will get my name for surname. 😆
  • We are sticking to Felicity ❤️. The kids are calling her that everyday now so she’s already become that name. Also this was by far the easiest name we agreed on! My first two were SOOO hard to find a name. I guess after those DH decided he didn’t care anymore 🤷‍♀️. Idk if that’s good or bad.

@marbellie DH and I have had a girl name picked out since before we were married so the second we found out this baby is a girl, we started using her name. I don't know that you're a weirdo for not wanting to use the name until she's here.. I know lots of people who use a temporary nickname for the baby until they arrive. I always feel like DH and I are the weirdos because we start using our selected name immediately AND all of our friends and family know the name right away.

ETA: Marielle is such a beautiful name, by the way!
  • @marbellie DH and I called our first Mila for a couple of months and then when she was born we thought she looked nothing like a Mila… whatever a Mila looks like 😂 and named her something completely different.
  • @Starynightsky24 Felicity is so pretty! Do you have a middle name picked out yet too? (@mayoduck too) My family doesn't typically do middle names but my son has one so I guess we're sticking with them 😜

@doodleoodle haha thank goodness you both felt the un-Milaness at the same time at least
  • @marbellie My son has 2 middle names, DH's first name (a Greek family tradition for firstborn son) and my maiden name. We haven't decided 100% but I am leaning towards doing the same for this baby but my first name as first middle instead of my husband's. I also have 2 middle names. Most places only ever ask for middle initial so it doesn't make much difference.
  • @MaximumEffort, both names are beautiful. If you go with Lenora then you have the "nickname" option and that also allows for going by the full name as an adult.
  • We’re strongly leaning towards Atlas for his first name, but can’t agree on a middle name.  I really like Atlas, but a girl I used to be very close friends with just had a baby and named him Atlas and now I feel weird about it.  We don’t talk anymore, but still!

My older sons name is Irish so I wanted an Irish middle name, but SO didn’t like it.  I like Atlas Declan and he likes Atlas Orion.
  • @sonoshark88 I love Atlas Declan. I like Atlas Orion too but since they are both constellation names it feels very space heavy, which I don’t think is necessarily a negative, but I like your choice more 😆
  • @artsiefartsie I thought the same thing!! Thank you!
  • @sonoshark88 another vote for Declan over Orion. I’d even lobby for Declan Atlas. 😍
  • @doodleoodle I like Declan Atlas too! A good amount of people I know have said that!
  • @doodleoodle @sonoshark88 Declan atlas is definitely my fave out of the options!

Coincidentally we are pretty set on Declan as a first name over here.
  • I have a Declan. It’s a solid name!
  • I’m jealous of all the Declan’s!
  • Hahaha I wish I could convince SO to switch to Declan as a first name! He’s sooo set on Atlas 🤦‍♀️
  • We didn't name DS until 4 days after he was born lol (we had a short list but couldn't decide). So tbd on this one. Right now we are just referring to him as "segundo" (Spanish for second - DH is a native spanish speaker)
  • We have a middle name: Jeannette (it’s after my best friend Jenna who passed in 2009)

First name candidates: Adrianna (the Anna part is pronounced as Anna from Frozen, not the hard “a”) and Aurora. My issue with Aurora is that we are moving to the city of Aurora here in less than a month… and Aurora from Aurora sounds weird.
  • @jenniferjoy37 I love aurora. That was in our top picks for girl names. It actually was between that and the name we picked which is Jolene James. But I can understand the aurora from aurora thing lol.
  • @jenniferjoy37... I like the name Aurora as well but recognize your concerns.  Where I'm at we have a lot of dogs and kids named after local landmarks, rivers, cities, etc and it does make you double take for a split second.

Jolene will be our daughter’s middle name. But we are struggling with how to spell it, since we picked it since it’s a combo of our mom’s names. But if we don’t spell it Jolene, (Joleen) it’ll always be spelled wrong IMO, and I think that’ll bug me!
  • @freakymagoo since it is a middle name I think you have a lot more leeway on how to spell it because it won’t be used as much. I vote go with whatever spelling you personally like more.
  • I need help- I have a little girl named Nora Elizabeth and we are having a boy this time. (I’m struggling because I had girl names picked out and all the clothes!!!). I like traditional names and names with meaning or family history. Biblical is a great plus. John is a family name (my dad and both grandfathers were John!) I also would like to incorporate my maiden name Myers since all the men had girls in that family and the name feels lost now. My husband likes Luke and while I like that too I’m struggling to let go of John! I feel like John-Luke Myers is too much. So anyone want to vote- John Myers or Luke Myers or John Luke or scrap it all and start over?!

I think John-Luke Myers is great!
  • I agree with John Luke.  It has sort of a southern sound but works really well (similar to John Henry) where it becomes almost like 1 name.  I mean if you are really into John there is a way to make it work... try it out for a while and see if it starts to roll easily.
  • @kmyers32 John and Luke are both short names, so I think John-Luke is fine. Also, not sure how you feel about it, but you can give your child 2 middle names as an option. When I got married, I kept my maiden name as a second middle name, my firstborn has my maiden name as a second middle and this baby will too. 90% of the time, only a middle initial is asked for on documentation so I've found having 2 middle names instead of 1 doesn't affect a lot of things.
  • @kmyers32 I personally don’t like John-Luke, and prefer Luke Myers to John Myers.
