April Appointments

Re: April Appointments

  • @businesswife-interesting. I had never heard of Coombs positive and no idea of my son was. It sounds like the rhogam shot can cause a baby to be Coombs positive? My RE wasn’t really concerned about the spotting but always does the rhogam shot if RH neg since she says there is no downside to the shot (except for the prick). Could ask your RE if you end up spotting again...

  • @JamieH2000 Right?  They never mentioned it with DD, and you would think with the section they would be a lot more concerned about stuff like that.  So I'm not sure if she was, because I know they watch the bilirubin on all babies, and just didn't specify it?  I don't remember seeing it in the chart tho, either...  With DD2 they were checking her levels and happy with how she progressed as well, so in both cases it was a non issue.  But I do know they will give an Rh- mom Rhogam with every pregnancy, even an MC.  I was surprised, you don't have to be very far along before they will give it to you anyway, to protect any future babies you might carry.  It's pretty interesting!

  • My 1st appointment is today. I know they are going to do bloodwork and a pap but I am praying that they do an US so I can see my little peanut.

@JamieH2000 I'm in the same boat, have a bit of brown spotting today. I never spotted with DD! A tad spooky.

I just called the fertility clinic to ask if they think I should get the Rhogam shot and they said they only do it for confirmed M/Cs. They want me to come in for bloodwork but I'm too sick, went for a Covid test this morning :( I have to self-isolate until I get my results. Once I get them (and they're negative) I'll go in for bloodwork to make sure everything looks okay. Ugh. Fun times.

  • @PrettyPalomino- I’m sorry to hear you are spotting and sick too! Ugh. Come on covid test.  Couldn’t hurt to push a little on the rhogam, there is not downside even if the risk from minor spotting this early is very little!! Will be thinking of you!

    Back for # 2!
  • I have been so nervous this week for my first appointment today. It went great! At first I was a little bummed because there was no ultrasound machine in the room I was brought into, but then the doctor ran out to get one. I was measuring 1 day behind my guess (6w3d instead of 6w4d) so my EDD is Dec 13. They caught a hr of 114 which I think is pretty normal for it being so early. Anyway, she thought everything was looking fine. I go back in four weeks.

Also — this was a new OB group for me, but I got very positive vibes from the appointment. Hoping it’ll be a good experience!

I don't think the rhogam shot causes the coombs positive but a frequent cause of coombs positive in babies is blood type incompatibility between baby and mom. I stay at home now but I'm an RN and I've worked mother/baby and NICU :)

@PrettyPalomino - I'm sorry to hear you're so sick and spotting. FX your covid test is negative, the spotting stops, and you start feeling better soon!

I had 3 betas done on 4/9, 4/12, and 4/19 and they were 81, 225, and 3831 so I'm feeling pretty cautiously optimistic. **TW Two of my three previous losses didn't start well from the beginning so good betas are reassuring. /TW** My first u/s I thought was next week, but I talked to the nurse and it's the week after on 5/4. I'll be 7 weeks and some change. It's so much less stressful once I hit 8.5-9 weeks (or at least it was with my other kids) b/c that's when I've been able to find baby's heartbeat by doppler at home.

  • @PrettyPalomino hope your covid test comes back negative! I have nothing to add on the Rhogam shot, but I will just say that with my first I spotted a lot in my first tri and it freaked me out as well. Hope you can get some rest and get in for your tests soon!
  • Good news on all fronts! I tested negative for Covid, AND I went for beta #2 today (21DPO/CD 36) and I went from 1,238 on April 19th to 8,269. No wonder I constantly feel like I just stepped off a ride at the fair  :#

No spotting today! FX'd it stays away. But yes I'm back to fearing twins.

May 11th! First U/S! That’ll be almost 8 weeks. I’ve seen some high numbers for singletons in my internet scouring, so there’s still hope it’s just one in there! lol

My betas with my first pregnancy (a twin pregnancy) were actually lower than this time around and I have a confirmed singleton! So you could just have crazy high HCG!

@mockingjay1 That's cool.  I'm just going by what my nurses told me at the time.  I don't have a ton of information on it, but this site seems to say the same thing (and give very little explanation).  But it does say in such cases the babies do not develop jaundice or anemia, which is also what happened to me and my baby.

    https://childrensmd.org/browse-by-age-group/baby-coombs-positive-whats-d-t/
    <div class=" Quote"><img alt="" src="https://us.v-cdn.net/5020794/uploads/editor/w9/vqlqsb2o28ro.jpg" title="Image: https://us.v-cdn.net/5020794/uploads/editor/w9/vqlqsb2o28ro.jpg"></div>

The Stanford page says there can be various reasons the test would come back as a "false positive," but doesn't specify any reasons.  Another site refers to false positive results coming from a "clinically insignificant" amount of antibodies being present, but again, doesn't specify a mechanism for how that might happen. 🤷
  • @PrettyPalomino - that's great news on both accounts!!
